In the past 5 years, I've lost three of my grandparents, my step-father, and my sister's dad. I was there for my gf losing two family members, one of them I knew personally, plus one of our friends committing suicide. Same ex-gf recently had a stroke. My mother had a mini-stroke. It's like the universe decided to play catch-up after I went 30 years only losing two great-granpadparents and only one of them I had any concrete memories of.
I used to let myself be enwrapped in the pain, but found out that I personally needed to keep myself busy, if only because there was just no way of accelerating the process of accepting the loss. It took as long as it took to accept my new normal and being able to focus on something, no matter how important or trivial, made it easier to ride those waves of emotion because it offered an anchor. I don't mean to get heavy but hearing from others that they understood, and knowing that they really did, made a big difference to me.

Yeah, loss is part of life, but it's shitty nonetheless. Everything's temporary, but I don't have to like it. Joseph Campbell thought that one of the big purposes of world mythology to early cultures was to inform the fact of death, and that only by accepting the inevitability of death could one truly live. Even the hunter would acknowledge the death of the prey and the sacrifice it made so they could live. It's an understanding of how life and death are connected, often interchangeable and a big goddamn cycle.
What did you do to your car, Itch?

It has been like that for me as well and didn't even pay attention to it like how you are.

But in the past 5 years, lost 2 uncles, 2 aunts, 3 cousins, 4 close friends, my dad last year and now my mom this year. Wow. You guys are right about the fresh meat. A few years back I stopped at a place called English Farmstead Cheese in a tiny town called Marion, NC. It's a cute little red shop on the road side, and the meat and cheese comes from the cows on site. Absolutely amazing. Hey Bartek, how big was the deep freezer you bought? My home depot has a GE 7 CU Ft for $259.

Many of us are at that age. Sounds so obvious to say, but as we age, everyone else is getting older around us too. It's weird because we have a sort of disconnect with aging. Like, as a kid, adults are all old, but when you become an adult, that age difference suddenly decreases. Then you have a couple of decades of seemingly being nearer in age to all your loved ones before they reveal that differential again and start dying off.
