Up next is a Cobra Commander that I always wanted growing up but the huge backpack rig kept preventing me from pulling the trigger as a kid. Still need to actually pick up the original version of this figure but I’m happy to say that with this custom, I at least have a version of it in the Modern collection.
Similar to what I did with the Battle Corps and v14, another full body paint job on the Marauder Black German and then I gave him a satchel to mimic the black strap the original had but also to give him a little something different than my other versions of this build. Ended up going with a yellow stripe on the pants instead of the red just to make him different in that way too. Plus I am loving how the bright yellow and blue pop off each other. I officially need to get a dremel because this ones head does not sit as well as I’d like. Battle Talking Cobra Commander Cobra Commander v5 And getting those Battle Phrases from the backpack into the action:

Bro!!!???
Two more CC’s that are spot on! The bfs build is super outside the box but hits the mark on all aspects for me. I didn’t even know there was a removable helmet version so my mind was blown twice on this one. Then you drop the talking backpack version which is another home run. On a personal note both of those figures hit me in the feels, haha. I found the armored CC at a random yard sale one day, I ran home got two dollars from my mom, ran back as fast as I could and the rest was history. The backpack version, I got as a kid and hated the giant backpack and the damn figure always fell down. It was more than a year after I had him that I discovered I could unscrew it from him. Then he became pretty standard in my cobra army.

Armored was passed down to me from my brother, for the longest time he was my only CC, then Battle Corps came out, I lost / broke pieces of Armored and it’s eventually what led to those two being my favorites. Didn’t have a blue cobra commander until 25th anniversary. EDIT: Haha and how great was it when you figured out how to unscrew the backpack!?!? The only one I had growing up was General Hawk and same thing, I absolutely loved the figure but outside of standing (via a stand) or somewhat successfully driving the Mauler, he was limited in the field. Then my brother figured out how to get that backpack off and it was ON! He led the troops from that point on until his knee fell off! Then he led from the briefing room! Had it not taken us so long to get that backpack off, I would have owned all four of those because I always messed with them in Kay-Bee. Quote:

I finally picked up an original hooded in the past year or so, along with red battle mask & star brigade and the 2000’s comic armored & blue armored versions. Just need original & Talking CC and I’ll be solid o-ring wise. Thanks! I need to go through heads and find a good Fred one for him. Tried on the 25th battle mask & Fred and both were kind of pinhead’ish on this build. I’m sure there’s a WW2 head or something that will make a passable Fred for pics.

Thanks! Such a fun project to take on, really a stand out among the other Cobra’s on the shelf too! Really happy with how it turned out, even more so because he fit in the Pogo so I could recreate that comic cover!

So the original plan was a week of Cobra Commander but I wasn’t feeling the builds for the final two that I had planned so I’m going to take a knee on those for now. I want them to be perfect so no sense rushing it.
Instead we are going to end the week with a group who I just finished and am already having a ton of fun with, the Dino-Hunters. I had the Get Tough Low-Light growing up, missed out on Ambush for whatever reason, but this was a set that I skipped completely. I do not even remember seeing it in stores but even if I did, a set this big I would not have been able to afford growing up. This is another full Marauder build that uses the build I put together for my v3 Low Light. Just a little reddish orange mix on the goggles, navy blue for the upper arms, an egg white base coat on the armor pieces & gloves and a healthy dose of neon yellow on top of that! So.....sunglasses on! Because this one is NEON! Dino Hunter Low Light
