An entire wave of Snake Eyes? Like, 6 different versions, or the same figure? Either way, Hasbro sure is doubling down on the Hellen Keller of the Joe team.

I think it would even justify the argument that just shipping the figure in its own assortment would be justified. Quote:
I think it will reveal how much $ they are putting in the line. The majority of the V1 parts were in good shape last time Hasbro used them, so if they still have them I'd bet on that (the last time Hasbro ever SAID anything about vintage tooling, it was along the lines of "if we've used it recently, we're keeping it, but if we have not used it since the 90's, it's toast." The 2010 O ring convention set came AFTER that, so a year later they still had some). If they don't have the old tooling, they may remake V1 just because of how many other figures use SOME of those parts. But V2 was NEVER repainted in the vintage line and the tooling was lost before the 2000's repaint era. That would only be good for a Snake Eyes figure, but that figure would sell well.
Or maybe there's a true exclusive and they end up using both. Since 2010, Hasbro's been shifting a LOT of their production to other sources. As is, the big reason we're still getting Transformers reissues is because Takara is also involved. Even then, the recent Dino Cassettes were remade based off of knock offs due to their rarity. It was SHOCKING when Hasbro dug up the 1997 Terrorsaur mold in 2014 for a store exclusive. But GI Joe isn't as big a brand, so I don't hold it as gospel they still have access to what tooling they had left. The "reuse" angle isn't solid either as most of his V1 mold-mates aren't really top tier characters (aside from maybe Stalker).

If they do make an '85 Snake Eyes, I'm going to be really pissed at myself though- in a bout of sheer madness, my dumbass just spent $100ish on one a few days ago. Yeah, I miss 2012 Joe hunting. Last edited by Sataninjaku; 07-08-2020 at 06:18 PM.. |

Hasbro spent much of the post-2002 era refurbishing a LOT of those molds, even doing some outright remolding to repair or replace (Mike T's look at one of Firefly's MANY reuses highlighted this. I just can't remember which figure he did it on). Since 2010, Hasbro's been shifting a LOT of their production to other sources. As is, the big reason we're still getting Transformers reissues is because Takara is also involved. Even then, the recent Dino Cassettes were remade based off of knock offs due to their rarity. They completely remade the Lady Jaye and Short Fuse bodies with new heads. The most common body part missing from older molds, the arms, were now made with softer plastic, which would extend the life of the molds. Until they say "we destroyed them ALL", I hold on to hope that at least some vintage tooling exists, which increases the chance of more figures past this first wave. I am not blind to the possibility an exec said "we haven't used them in years, axe 'em." But GI Joe is, unlike G1 Transformers, wholly owned by Hasbro, and long forgotten tooling has popped up many times before (hell, one of the convention sets used Sgt Savage accessories!). |

Man, it's amazing that the first post was in March and we still don't know yet. Just put us out of our misery, Hasbro, you don't have to show anything yet if you don't want to but just say what this line is going to be FFS.

Is the Movie still releasing in October? I hope this doesn’t get killed the same way the Retaliation figures did.

That was a nightmare. Everyone bought wave one before they pulled what was left, then they heavy ordered wave one again, due to the switch to 3d. That stuff just peg warmed. It was a huge debacle that left a real bad taste in my mouth. The scary thing now, with this whole covid thing, who really knows what theaters will be open or when. It could change at the drop of a hat, and we could be in a bad place again.
