People can be very different obviously.
I'm also a blueshirt v. Viper fan and am a bigger fan of more "realistic" vehicles like the HISS Tank, Rattler, and Skystriker, than the Conquest and Night Raven which dominate season 2. I do love little touches in season 2 like the female Stratoviper and the Mantis captain (along with Lady Jaye's seeming "affair" which dominates one episode making Flint angry). But all in all, I couldn't even finish most of the episodes I started. One thing I have to admit though was that Serpentor drove me nuts at first. I am a big fan of CC, so seeing Serpy take his role was really aggravating at first, but after re watching the Season several times I have actually come to like him a lot. Especially if you mix the character given to him there with all the other iterations of his character. One question though. What is your favorite version of Baroness. Mine was Renegades because where as in Sunbow I hated her, in Renegades I really liked her. I liked her personality/they way she acted way more in Renegades, as well as how she looked and sounded. |

Originally I wouldn't touch Season 2 because of Serpentor replacing Cobra Commander and I still can't forgive it for that (CC is by far my favorite Joe character). But I wanted to give it a chance since CC is still in some episodes. But I can't get past Serpentor, Mindbender, and Slaughter (seriously, he shouts every line; he simply isn't an actor). And the plots of most season 2 episodes aren't even as good as Greenhouse Gas, the only season 1 episode that I won't rewatch. I have to say that Flint is a bigger part of a lot of season 1 than he is in season 2. He's the main Joe in about half the episodes. He and Duke seem to switch off, and Flint never gets captured. If his girlfriend was Scarlett instead of Lady Jaye, I'd probably like him better. But Scarlett usually isn't in Flint episodes, so I can't like him as much.

Sunbow Baroness is by far my favorite, although I admit her competence is generally overrated (she basically blows the whole Cobra operation in episodes like 20 Questions and Haul Down the Heavens). But I love her look and voice. Renegades Baroness just doesn't look right to me. And let's not even get into RoC.
"But I can't get past Serpentor, Mindbender, and Slaughter (seriously, he shouts every line; he simply isn't an actor)." I thought Mindbender was a pretty sorry character for the longest time, but after a while he became my 2nd favorite Cobra only after Major Bludd. But I have to agree the constant shouting was a bit much. "I have to say that Flint is a bigger part of a lot of season 1 than he is in season 2. He's the main Joe in about half the episodes. He and Duke seem to switch off, and Flint never gets captured. If his girlfriend was Scarlett instead of Lady Jaye, I'd probably like him better. Also, I had very high hopes for Sienna Miller in the role and the characterization just fell flat.

I've always assumed that the Pyramid of Darkness five part mini-series came a little bit after the Revenge of Cobra mini-series. I was watching Countdown for Zartan last night, and it felt like it was supposed to be the next episode after Revenge. What I've always figured is that there was probably 13 episodes produced after Mass and Revenge. From there, I assume that Pyramid of Dariness was the beginning of the large batch of episodes, which brought the series episode total to 65. With that being the case, the Pyramid of Darkness intro ended up being the one used for everyday broadcast, the same way the The Transformers season two into was the on used for everyday broadcast.
Another thing that I look at is how Pyramid of Darkness didn't receive a VHS release in the 80's. With both Transformers and G.I. Joe, the episodes that received releases were the episodes produced prior to the show extending its episode total, to reach 65 total episodes. Transformers ended up with 49 episodes produced as a large season two (to reach 65 total episodes). And I assume that with G.I. Joe, Mass was the beginning of what I look at as being a 42 episode season to reach 65 total episodes. Last edited by ABrown; 06-26-2020 at 04:32 PM.. |

If you haven't reached the "There's No Place Like Springfield" two-parter yet, be prepared. It's very whacked out and pretty disturbing for a cartoon aimed at (older) children, because of what it put the main character through. But if you are familiar with the writer of those episodes, it shouldn't surprise you.
