This would be the ideal. But I think this is an o-ring line.

In all reality, GI Joe just hasn't found a good footing in today's market. We can argue the why's and how's all week, but the fundamental truth is that Hasbro tried REALLY hard with 25th and especially Rise of Cobra to make the brand a heavy weight in the toy aisle again. Rise of Cobra, in particular, saw a TON of support from Hasbro, arguably more than I had seen for Transformers 2007 or any of the Marvel films to that point (and in many respects, most after as well). The 50th line would not have existed for any brand in a similar retail position, and no other brand would have seen the subsequent releases we ended up getting. Hasbro has invested a LOT into the brand since the big relaunch in 2002. But since 2009, it has not performed to the standard Hasbro wants it. Certainly not enough to justify the investments fans keep demanding of them. But I find it hard to say Hasbro has treated the brand poorly when I've seen how much we DID get in spite of the difficulties at retail.

Hasbro invested in new tooling for EVERY Star Wars retro release. They also invested in the upcoming Ghostbusters Retro line with 4 figures plus 2 ghost figures.
If Hasbro feels a market for retro o-ring Joe figures (which, given the relative success of Star Wars and Transformers in that field, there may well be if done well), then they can justify the investment. Especially if they can justify a more premium price point. I’m so sick and tired of G.I. Joe being compared to Star Wars, Transformers and every other popular brands of the moment out there. G.I. Joe is just a blip on the radar compared to these other brands. Star Wars has been around before ARAH. They are constantly in media, be it in movies, cartoons, comics, video games, novels. You name it and Star Wars is out there. Let’s not forget the owners who are constantly jamming the f-ing brand down our throats. Also there‘s SW fans that’ll buy anything with that brand stamped on it. Transformers= ROBOTS. Yes they’ve been around about the same amount of time like ARAH. Face it robots will always get more attention than a guy(or gal) in green with a rifle. Transformers has had it’s ups and downs like every brand. But they come back with new fresh ideas. Beast Wars/Beast Machine brought in a new generation of fans/collectors. Say what you will about the movies but they also brought in a new generation of fans worldwide. Transformers also has media attention out there with comics, games, cartoons, and the movies. With Hasbro being an ip company they license the hell out of the brand. G.I. Joe ARAH came out in the ‘80s a time of The Cold War and Patriotism. They smacked Star Wars and every other toyline because of this. They improved action figures in general with articulations, vehicles, play sets. New products on a yearly basis, comics, cartoon and yes video games. Today the world is a completely different playing field. Soldiers, War, Terrorism. And my favorite, the useless stay at home moms that bitch and moan about “toys with guns are evil.” I’ve been saying since Pursuit of Cobra that G.I. Joe is a movie toyline. No movie no toys. Yeah, we had Joe stuff from ToysRUs the last few years. But Hasbro’s main clients Target and Walmart dictate what they want. That’s another thing that bugs me, when collectors say “guess Hasbro doesn’t want my money.” Guess what, Hasbro got their money from the retailers that sell the stuff to us. Look I’m a Joe fan just like the rest of you but you have to realize that G.I. Joe will NEVER have the popular/success it had back in the ‘80s. Be grateful for what we gotten over the years, because right now we’re living in a time where there’s bigger problems than get the G.I. Joe that “you” want.

I'm not one to wait on Hasbro. I love GI Joe toys for their articulation, vehicles, and general play features. 100% however, Hasbro has customers (yeah customers via big box stores) if they want them.
Go check for items actually sold on Ebay for major brands, world wide. Star Wars 860,832 Batman 328,266 Avengers 184,243 Gi Joe 150,490 x men 145,388 Transformers 103,818 He Man 38,552 Little Pony 25,023 Barbie 21,588 Jurassic Park 19,968 Paw Patrol 11,623 Sort the Transformers and GI Joe by top 200 sales, and you are going to see Transformers and Joes both end at about $850 at place 200 on the top most expensive items. Now this isn't the most scientific look at things, as it doesn't take Yahoo sales in Japan into account. Every toy line is going to be affected by hundreds of other factors we can't take into account doing a google search. But when we are talking about a company bringing back a retro line, the fandom is here for GI Joe. We want GI Joe items. We keep buying GI Joe items which were sold in retail stores years ago. |

1.Not all stay at home moms are useless. I have one, I know and shehas her hands full educating us four and doing online college. And she shoots guns so the last dont even apply. 2. Moms complaining about toys with guns. Utterly ridiculous that it actually happens. Some dumb*** company sent Hasbro a letter comparing nerf guns to assault rifles. Why they complain about that kind of stuff instead of the gang member running around with a gun illegally, or the rapist committing violence in gun free zones... So much can be said here. Honestly, somewhat surprised that the new joe logo is patriotic colors again. With all the idiots being "offended" y the sight of the flag of the country that they choose to live in, I expected something like retaliation or ROC.

Yes, agreed. I guess my point was Hasbro did it in 2008/2009 with the vintage vehicles. So not having the old tooling molds doesn’t mean it can’t be done. It has been done. It just comes down to validation of the tooling cost.

I did always like when we got 100% new tooling, like for the Skyhawk, but Hasbro has shown time and time again that they hold on to old stuff and reuse it to save money whenever possible. I predict that this line will be a mix of old tooling and new tooling. |

Several of the '07-'16 molds were the original tooling, modified for new figures. The two vehicles we know we're getting, the AWE and HISS, have never been 100% new tooling at any point. They have been modified, bit by bit, over the course of decades. Some vehicle molds have been so slightly modified, they still have the vintage copywrite stamp.
I did always like when we got 100% new tooling, like for the Skyhawk, but Hasbro has shown time and time again that they hold on to old stuff and reuse it to save money whenever possible. I predict that this line will be a mix of old tooling and new tooling. But to my initial post, I keep seeing people consistently post, “the old tooling was destroyed...” The implication being that since the the old tooling was destroyed we can’t get vintage items. I was just pointing out all of the 25th, and 1997 reissues that we did get and whether or not the old tooling exists doesn’t mean anything aside from cost. Anything can be retooled. Plenty already has been. I won’t pretend to know what tooling still exists, it doesn’t really matter, we can get it just the same. As long as Hasbro feels that their is enough demand to warrant the cost.

From what I've heard, it's just a Star Wars thing. I have not heard any indication that Hasbro Pulse will be addressing any other brand during that livestream. That doesn't rule out something in the future now that SDCC is canceled.
I really don't think that is fair to Hasbro or the guys who've tried their damnedest to make the brand successful. I can't think of ANY brand that has been given more chances to succeed than Joe, or any brand that has lingered LONG after than Joe. In all reality, GI Joe just hasn't found a good footing in today's market. We can argue the why's and how's all week, but the fundamental truth is that Hasbro tried REALLY hard with 25th and especially Rise of Cobra to make the brand a heavy weight in the toy aisle again. Certainly not enough to justify the investments fans keep demanding of them. But I find it hard to say Hasbro has treated the brand poorly when I've seen how much we DID get in spite of the difficulties at retail. As someone who collects Joe and Star Wars I have to say that most of the PoC/30th Joes far surpassed the Star Wars figures of that same couple of years. If Star Wars got more large vehicles, well it’s probably because Star Wars fans have proven over and over to support the product. Holding 2010-12 Joes and Star Wars in my hand at the same time, it seems to me that Joe did get some love from Hasbro. But after seeing some of the great work with the later figures you can’t fault us for wanting more. I would have enjoyed to continue collecting more ARAH figures done or redone to the quality that we got with those 30th/50th/ Ultimate figures. Figures like Airtight, Sci Fi, Techno Viper, 30th Cobra Soldier, ALL of the Ultimates, still wow me. I’d have paid Club prices to get the remaining 82-94 figures of that quality.
