Well, it's been a month now since the initial leak, so my hopes are higher for pictures any day, but my gut feeling is still at least a couple of weeks away. But I'm ready to speculate some more!
Of the code-names that have been cracked, I think Snake Eyes is the safest bet for the first reveal (if they don't reveal all at once). Between the movie later this year and the Classified figure being the first of it's scale revealed and shipped, it makes the most sense. So ASSUMING o-rings, here's what I think we're looking at: V1: Hasbro had the majority of this mold back during the rerelease era. I see 3 possibilities. First, a straight repaint (no-paint?) of the comic pack version with the new head. This is what we would have gotten if the "Past and Present" packs of 2009 had gone forward. Second, the mold as we'd seen it since '97, everything correct except the waist. This would show a little bit of effort on Hasbro's part, going with the V1 head, but I would be disappointed if they didn't recast the waist, or use the one from CP Short Fuse. Lastly, a figure using 100% parts, original or recasted, from the straight or swivel armed figure. That would show effort, either in finding or recasting the waist, or remaking the entire mold IF all vintage tooling has been destroyed. V2: Possible, because of how iconic this version is. If this figure shows up, then Hasbro is all-in on doing it right (at least sometimes), because the vintage tooling is gone. As long as they don't pull a 2000s approach (remake most of the figure, but find arms that are "close enough").

It's fun to guess though, in fact I've had way more fun with the speculation than I have actually seeing the products revealed so far (come on Hasbro.)

Though goodness knows, The Roadblock and Snake Eyes molds have done their time, man. What's left of Duke too, though "Dung Beetle" isn't on the retro list. I admit full ignorance on the Transformers stuff. |

I am convinced Hasbro was originally planning to unveil Retro at SDCC.
I also think that is probably still their plan, whether through a physical SDCC or just through a digital-only SDCC. For Star Wars they have increasingly been doing major reveals spread out across several major conventions — Toy Fair in Feb, SDCC in the second half of July, and NYCC in October, and then smaller reveals for Euro conventions, May 4, and blu ray/DVD release day. It’s been a regular, organized, prescheduled thing that they’ve been doing intentionally for a while now, and it follows a predictable logic. So I thought I’d try to think like they do and create a release plan,. Specifically, I think Hasbro’s overall plan was as follows: 1) Reveal Classified line and several specific figures at NYTF while immediately converting interest into short term preorders for exclusive Snake Eyes, as well as longer term preorders for the others unveiled. 2. Ship exclusive Snake Eyes, let him arrive and generate buzz, then quickly follow up with a Destro reveal to pump that interest back into the rest of the line...and, release a teaser trailer at approx the same time to convert figure interest into movie interest and vice versa. 3. Reveal a full trailer and wave 2 of Classified at SDCC in late July to again link excitement for the movie with excitement for the product and vice versa. And try to talk Walmart into agreeing to allow a reveal of Retro to send the buzz into overdrive, bring any anti-6” cynics into the fold, and prep Walmart for a late summer or back-to-school release window for Retro to drive traffic before movie product hits. 4. Deliver Retro to Wally on schedule for an August release so that it actually hits Walmart shelves around Oct 1, following their customary delays, thus hitting around the same time as the second full trailer and the movie figures we all are sure are coming. Use NYCC mainly to promote the product hitting the shelves for the movie, plus maybe wave 2 of movie product or a sneak peak at Classified wave 3. 5). Profit with movie and figure sales, have Classified wave 2 hit in Oct/Nov so that people can round out their year with the rest of the originally-hinted-at figures, while not drawing too much attention away from the main thrust of the movie figures at the time those first come out. 6) Release new stuff (wave 2 of movie, Classified wave 3) in Jan-Feb window, then use NYTF 2021 to reveal the longer term future. 7). Hopefully, announce a show, additional movie, or both at SDCC 2021 As far as how coronavirus might change any of this, my guess is that they will largely stick to the plan but push the adjustable parts back a bit as a cushion. But for SDCC, I predict it will just be done with digital reveals during a digital convention. CA as a state has been pretty aggressive in its response to the virus and the big cities have too, so I tend to think even a mostly “open” country by late July would not allow a big physical convention. It’s anybody’s bet whether I am right, but if I am, then....while it’s a complete tossup when we might get a teaser, we actually shouldn’t expect Retro reveals for another three months or so. (Especially if I am right that the Destro reveal was not a random act of last minute corona-decision, but a long planned effort to build on the buzz from the arrival of exclusive Snake Eyes.)
