But Star Wars evolved, Joe evolved. It's not like they stopped making them and they haven't been available for 20-30 years. I guess my nostalgia isn't that strong (I view action figures as a form of art, and although I can appreciate old stuff, I have no desire to go backwards developmentally). And for them to prey on that nostalgia, I think is wrong. But obviously, some people are ok with that. But I'm also not trying to tell people what do buy or enjoy in life.

Makes a lot of sense to me, and you're definitely not alone. I'd even go as far as to say that I'm in the minority. I think if the new sculpt figures hadn't have been so terrible, I'd probably have ended up the same way, but a few waves of them left a bad taste in my mouth and I decided to completely abandon "modern" toys all together and focus strictly on the lines I loved as a kid.
I'm actually at a crossroads with collecting as we speak, for a few reasons. A recent "series of unfortunate events" caused me to completely dump all of my collections at the end of the year, and as of this month, I'm stabilized enough to jump back in. Looking back over the past 20 years has caused me to view a few lines in a different light, as far as the modern counterparts are concerned. Transformers, MOTU and Marvel for example will all be modern this time around for various reasons, especially TF for durability. TMNT and Nintendo will definitely stay original, because I see no reason not to, aside from prices. Joe is the one area that I'm on the fence with. Both eras have their own merits, but I won't do both. ARAH is what I know and love, there's no "they didn't make that one", and for the most part they don't spontaneously fall apart like G1 Transformers do. Moderns of course also have their benefits, but from what I've seen, there are consistency/quality issues, and the line up is far more limited- too many Snake Eyes and not enough Darklons (joke). Also, buying on the secondary market, the prices are the same, if not worse than ARAH, because half of the characters seem to be exclusives of some sort. There's also the worry that I'll spend money to go all in, only to find after a couple of years that they don't hold any real meaning for me. That being said, there are a lot of excellent figures to choose from, and it would be nice not to have to be constantly worried about discoloration, o-ring repair, weakening plastics, etc. I'll also be completely honest and say that were it not for the rose tinted shades, I would hands down prefer the look of the moderns. I feel differently about which way I'll go day to day, and I think what ends up on shelves this time around will help me decide- I really want to pull Joes off of the pegs again. TL;DR- yeah, I get it.

If Starcom were to be made again, would you still want them 2.5-ish inches, or bumped to 4 inch?

Oh! And Steel Monsters from Tonka. Those vehicles were compatible. Post-apocalyptic anything is my cup of tea.

I do too, but I want my ARAH 80s versions carded now. And graded. So that’s what I’m getting into.

Yep, the personality was in the vehicle’s complexity. Same with M.A.S.K. A bigger figure would probably result in vehicles with nerfed features & scale. I have zero confidence that a vehicle like the Starmax Bomber or Rhino would be as impressive.
