Hey, all. Paul Allor, here, the writer of the upcoming GI Joe comic. I just wanted to start a thread where people can ask me questions about the book, both before it launches and throughout the run.
A couple of very obvious guidelines: 1. I'll try to respond to every question, but may not be able to answer due to spoilers, etc. If I do give a mild spoiler (like if we're using a certain character), I'll put on a spoiler tag, if this forum supports them. 2. If things stop being civil I'll probably disappear pretty quickly. I'm mostly thinking about you going after each other. If you really, truly feel compelled to call me a snowflake or whatever, that's fine. I've been called worse. 3. I will not comment on any past runs or past creators. 4. My work schedule is pretty hectic and erratic, so I may disappear for stretches at a time before popping back in. Okay, let's have some fun! |

Other than the short promotional sentences description, how would YOU describe your book if you had more space to do it with... like for example, here on this forum?
Tell us more about your book, that we haven't heard elsewhere.

Hi, welcome! Is this new series a continuation of past IDW continuity or is it like the new Transformers series and a new continuity? Either way looking forward to it!

Thanks Paul Allor for opening up this forum! This is really awesome. I was wondering if you were going to pull characters from the vast roster of GI Joe and Cobra or stick to a core team from each side? The premise sounds like Renegades but more jacked up. I'm excited for it!

I just wanted to acknowledge this, but I'm going to get back to this one when I have a bit more time than I do at the moment!

All new continuity, that will not cross over with any other properties! Except maybe Action Force...

I want this to be a comic where there's no character who HAS to be in every issue. We're also doing a lot of standalone issues, so that gives us greater ability to cut away to other Joes, other Cobra agents, other parts of the world. I've been giving a lot of thought to where certain character are in this world. So I already know, for example, where Recondo is and what he's doing, and I know that's going to be an awesome story, when we catch up to him and his glorious mustache. I also want it to be a book where you go to pick up this month's issue and it could be like, "oh, this issue is focused entirely on the Oktober Guard, with no Joes in it!" Or "this is an all-flashback issue!" Or, "This is an issue about... Barbecue? Huh. Okay, that's a choice." Basically, since this is a fresh new continuity with no tie-in books, we're just gonna do whatever the heck we want to do, while making sure that we're putting out a high-quality comic with a compelling story, month after month. But that's all kind of down the line. The first arc will be focusing on our core team, before we start to expand. Just getting ahead of myself because I'm excited, haha. |

I understand if answering these questions violates your spoiler rule, but...in this new continuity, are the Joes publicly known, or more of a hush-hush classified team?
Also, who's your head honcho? Hawk, Duke, or somebody else?

Okay, that didn't work, ha. Let me do some research, and maybe I'll just have to use a very bold spoiler warning, instead.
