So, I managed to get my hands on a Watchmen script (the shooting one), and wow. It's incredible.
For those of you who have neer read the masterpiece that is The Watchmen, here's the story: Years after superheroes were required to retire due to government legislation, a serial killer appears to be targeting former heroes. This series of attacks is far more deadly than the remaining heroes would believe, as Rorschcach (a brutal vigilante with a changing mask), Nite Owl (a former hero with the likes of Batman), Silk Spectre (a former teen sidekick), Ozymandias (the worlds smartest hero turned CEO of his own company) and Dr. Manhattan (the only real superhero, able to alter atoms, basically allowing him to chang reality) try to either uncover the killer or save the shambles of thier lives. So how's the script? WORTH THE WAIT!!! This IS Alan Moore's masterpiece, and it is incredible. Pros- Lines of dialogue are sometimes taken verbatim (sorry for spelling). The general plot (and the sub plots) are there. Dude, it's FREAKING WATCHMEN!!!! The last scene of the book is there, and it is exaclty how it should be--- I leave it entriely in your hands. All the big moments are there- The Comedian, the Mars scene, the alley way fight, Rorschach in jail, the infamous "I did it 30 minutes ago" speech. Eh- The ending is no more hollywood, though only slightly. It works, and well, and Im happy with it, but die hard fans might complain, though I really don't see anything, including the metaphors of the book, to be ruined or anything. The average person who sees this won't even know anything is different. The threat that "saves the world" is different. I understand why, it makes sense, plus it eliminates some dangling plot lines and cuts down on running time (the film will be close to three hours), and I'm fine with it. It's still something that die hard fans might complain about though. Cons- .................................. Yeah, I got nothing. If anything, it would be the exclusion of the Black Freighter storyline, though that is getting it's own animated treatment (starring Gerald Leonidas Butler!!!) and might be added to a special edition version of the film on DVD, so I'm not complaining. In the end, I give the script this... A SOLID 100% A+ No other version will come close. |

I never read the graphic novel, but have always been familiar with the story and characters via friends or reading about it online. I always loved the story, but never had much of a "visual" idea of everything other than what was in my head.
Ive been hearing a LOT of people complain, and they sounded very "fan-boyish", about the look of the characters and whatnot that has been released on the net. I have no problems with the looks, but mainly again, due to having never read the actual graphic novel itself. but with Alan Moore pretty much against any movie based on his stuff, and all the 'fan boys' whining about the looks, it seems to have a more severe "cult classic" type fan base that seems to be more unforgiving than most materials, at least to what I have seen. I thought the script was fantastic, and seemed very true to the feel to what I was familiar with, but do you think with no support (from what I heard last) from Moore, and rampant fanboys saying "The comedian looks too bad-ass" and similar, will hurt the movie much? I know Ill be seeing it, but then again, im not a hardcore Watchmen fan, but I am very happy with everything I have ever read up on it.

I highly doubt that fan-boy backlash will have ANY affect on the film. For instance---
Batman & Robin, fans revolted, and it blew. Transformers had fans in an uproar, and it's one of the biggest moneymakers of all time now. Go figure. |

Well, now that the traielr is out, I can safely say, I already see one of the changes to the story (perhaps the biggest change, and easily the most Hollywood), is still intact, as far as I can tell. Granted, there is no proof of that, as it is only a trailer.

When does this movie open?
I saw the trailer for it a few weeks ago and this movie looks like it is going to be incredible. I have never read the book. (don't shoot) Can't ruin it for me. Does anyone know where I can pick up a copy of the book? I'm going to read the book after I see the film to see if they messed it up or not. The book is always better anyway.

I can't wait for this movie to come out, I honestly haven't as an adult ever been this excited for a movie re-lease. It comes out March 6 and I think this will be the movie of the year once people see how amazing of a story this is. It also has some awesome 12" figures coming from DC Direct, I can't wait to get them in hand |
