This is just a thought. What if Paramount did a live action show that had the feel of Stargate SG1 with no Stargate and more G.I. Joe type action. They could put it on a lower budget, use as little CGI as possible, and get good actors that look and act the part of their characters. They could put it on YouTube Red or maybe even make it free to watch with the exception of stuff like paying to watch early or buying the whole series on blue-ray or digital. If they did this I would be hooked especially because a long show like this would give Hasbro a chance to produce entire waves of action figures to accompany the show.
There is already proof that something like this could work. As the CW's Flash and other Hero related shows are free to watch and are very very popular. Last edited by Stormtrooper12; 05-14-2018 at 09:27 AM.. |

Maybe I'm in the extreme minority here, but I don't take any issues with either ROC or Retaliation. It's not like GIJoe is going to win a Motion Picture "Best Film" award for an in-depth script or anything. Take the movies for what they are - popcorn, blow-up, action entertainment.
One thing that always puzzles me are fans who complain how the movies are different from the comics. Seems like what they really want is simply a movie version of their favorite comic book. I look at all comic book movies (DC, Marvel, Transformers, etc.) as the comics simply being an inspiration for the movie and not an adaptation of the comic book. Plus, GIJoe is much more than a comic book. Even in the 1980s there were really 3 GIJoe universes running congruent to each other: toy line, comics, and cartoon. I realize the comics and toy line were real close, but they were still separate enough "universes" from each other (think "the Fridge," and Cobra-La which never made it into the comics). Were ROC or Retaliation great movies as far as plot and script go? No, but neither was Star Wars ANH. What makes these movies is the action. I remember when ROC came out and people complained about the Accelerator Suits, nanomites, and or underwater base not being "real" like to the comic. To which, I would remind them: Marvel Issue 3 giant robot with tiny bug robots in its head - totally not "real," Marvel Issue 8 "Sea Legs" and an underwater base - totally not "real." I liked how ROC borrowed from different versions of GIJoe. You had the "life-like hair and kung-fu grip" from the 12" line, "knowing is half the battle" from the cartoon, and I took the accelerator suits as being like Sigma Six. If you're looking for GIJoe to be "Tears of the Sun" then you'll surely be disappointed because GIJoe has never been that serious. Also, I think using actors like the Rock and Bruce Willis help bring in an audience that wouldn't normally watch a GIJoe movie. I also think the popularity of one-shot Star Wars movies and the reception of the Deadpool movie(s) is what sparked the idea for a Snake Eyes movie. Could Snake Eyes be an R-rated movie? I doubt it. Again, GIJoe has never been that serious of a story. I can only see having 2 movies as a plus for the toy line, which I think is the ultimate goal. Not to get political (and bet banned), but there has been a shift in politics similar to the shift from the 1970s to the 1980s in such a way that I think 2 new movies could create enough of an interest in young kids to reignite the 'Joe line of toys (plus even though I'm not a big fan of them, Hasbro needs to develop some kind of video games to go along with the movies.). Anyway, just my two cents. Jason |

I enjoyed both movies but neither got at the heart of GI Joe to me. The first was closest. I mean it definitely had the BIG SCI FI SPECTACLE of the comics and cartoon, but it just wasn't as well written as the comics were.
That's why I personally feel it should be an adaptation of the comics. The comics were the only iteration of the story where the people involved really cared about the characters and story, and it showed. The cartoon was fun but I'm sure it was just another job to most of the people that worked on it, same as the movies. Larry Hama put some elbow grease into it. |

I would have been much happier with Rise of Cobra if it would have been a better quality.
I wanted at least Armageddon or Transformers and got Street Fighter, or the Mummy or more appropriately, team America, quality. I think the worst part was the drastic change of characters and established history and relationships. Retaliation was much better but still hamstringed by Rise of Cobra. Hopefully a new movie, and a spinoff, whether it is Dawn or Bill Light, will be given better quality everything this round. You don't have to be slavish and reprint the comics panel by panel like 300 on screen, but at least keep the basics the same. You know what I wanted for Retaliation? Sad when the teaser is better than the movie in some respects.

Yeah I just watched ROC again and there are some good elements to it. If they had ARAH costumes and the characters story line wasn't so off it would have been amazing

You take away Rex being CC, The Baroness being Rex's sister and Dukes ex Fiance, the Delta suits, Snake Eyes being an orphan in Japan, Ripcord being Wallace Weems (They changed Breaker and Heavy Duty's names, they shoulda did the same with him), sinking ice, Snake Eyes lips, the PIT being in the middle of Egypt. Yeah it coulda been a good movie.
The reactive armor was fine, had it just been plate body armor. |

The ice sank because it was riddled with tunnels from the Cobra fortress that was destroyed. Scarlett actually mentions it in the movie.
