What kind of games are you folks into, and what genre would you enjoy seeing a GI Joe game in?
Some of the recent discussion in various places on this site have got me thinking about it a bit. What if we had a GI Joe moba? Creeps/minions would be greenshirts and Cobra troopers, and advanced minions would be Steel Brigade and Vipers. We could either keep all of our hero/villain characters unique and let them flip-flop on teams, or tie a Joe and Cobra together, i.e. SE and SS or Duke and CC, to keep all the factions correct. Vehicles could potentially be a temporary buff purchase, and it could keep the game a little unique from LoL or Dota. I was also thinking about GI Joe possibly appearing as a sort of guest appearance in another game. Costumes for games like CoD or Overwatch, a guest character in a fighting game. Would love to see Storm Shadow in Soul Calibur, but that's kind of like asking to see Michael Jackson perform with David Bowie. Last edited by Cornguy; 06-19-2017 at 04:25 AM.. |

I have not played video games for forever, I am an old school arcade type. Joust Pacman Burger Time...
I have seen videos of the Transformers games and those look cool. I could get into those. I do know that from what was said at a conference call by Brian Goldner that a COD game does not fit into their vision of GIJOE, he explicitly said (at that time) you won't see a GIJOE COD. Technology is way beyond me at this point, but some kind of interactive game with goals weapons to unlock, maybe dimensional portals, something really fun to play and that challenges your mind. All a person has to do is look at what is out there for E3 this year and get some ideas. We do have GIJOE games out there right now there presence is just a small part of the market, like an afterthought. GIJOE in Micro machines , GIJOE in Toy Wars etc. It is not as if Hasbro has not been trying, they just need a little more enthusiasm. The biggest game out there ( I think) is League of Legends if GIJOE could somehow copy that formula for success you may have something.

You guys played Toy Soldier: War Chest? The legendary edition I think it is has GI Joe vehicles and stations, and you can play as Duke and Cobra Commander. I wouldn't necessarily want to see gi joe in a gritty, shoot people-in-the-head type game. But a game with a toy tie in could be cool. I'd say kids are 2000% more into video games and YouTube than toys these days. If you want to sell toys....

I cannot comprehend what drives Hasbro to see things that are obviously fantastic ideas... And then do the exact goddamned opposite. |

I'm just gonna spit some ideas here. Maybe come back and edit in some more.
I think.... GI Joe needs a 80's-90's toy & cartoon themed RTS Command and Conquer type clone with some fps/3rdps hybrid sprinkled in! The game would play like a classic RTS game except the player, if desired, could jump in and control one of their own npc units themselves to give their side an intelligent advantage in battles that you sometimes don''t gent from your npcs because they may act like cannon fodder or not do something exactly the way you wished via your commands. Really need a unit to blow up a very specific part of an enemy base wall? Take control of your commando and do the job yourself! Then send your tanks through! Instances like that. You should be able to use all sorts of classic vehicles as units. Any crazy cobra weapons (weather dominator, mass device) or special Joe devices would be top-tier items that have cool-downs and special requirements so they cannot be spammed. One such item, the thermal molecular ignition transmitter from the cartoon, would be a Cobra weapon that disintegrates your Joe's money. Steal their tech! If you capture the enemy's factory, you can build all of their units too! Massive bases are a must. Both factions can build "hidden" bases that are constructed into the landscape (mountain, underground, undersea, etc). Cobra and Joe should also have the ability to make mobile command centers if they need to bail on a constructed base and relocate on the game map. Various types of Troop builders are your infantry. Main characters like Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow are special 1-man units. Snake Eyes would serve as your commando. Any additional commandos you build would be other Joe characters who fit that role. If you have unlocked Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow, you unlock additional units of the Arashikage ninja clan. Certain main characters can also add buffs to your side. Unlocking Destro for play can increase your until production speed and also unlock his MARS/Iron Grenadiers units to use in battle. Battles and bases can take place all over the map, land, air, or the sea. The Flagg would serve as the Joe base on Sea. Cobra sea base could be a big underwater base or a submarine. Beating the main campaign would unlock Intermediate Difficulty "Star Brigade" mode and have you play on the moon or mars utilizing a similar map structure. Land/air/sea play areas would become orbit/ground/subterranean. Gravity is your friend or enemy in this mode: enemy units can be knocked off the planet surface or out of orbit and into deep space via missiles or space debris. You can also damage large groups of surface units or bases by dropping large objects on them like as asteroid. Beating Star Brigade mode would unlock Hard Difficulty "Compound Z" mode with Joes vs a Cobra Zombie Army. Game play is like the regular RTS mode except Cobra will have the ability to resurrect dead units from either side to use against Joe. The difficulty in this mode comes from Cobra's tough-to-kill overwhelming numbers, but their Zombie units are very slow. If playing as Joe, speed and cleaning up the dead upon the battlefield is what will win you battles in this mode. Cobra can only resurrect dead joe/cobra units on the battlefield if they send out scientist squads to where the dead units lay or fire cluster compound z bombs over a patch of dead units. Joes can send out cleanup crews to remove dead units from the battlefield so cobra cannot resurrect them. Beating Compund Z mode will unlock EXPERT "Overkill mode." This mode has Joe vs Cobra Overkill and his B.A.T. army. BAT units explode once defeated and take out any neighboring units with them, friend or foe! The key here is to keep your bats scattered so they do not hurt your neighboring Cobra units. Bats can also be clustered together to blow up in a chain-reaction fashion which can be devastating to the enemy Joe untis across large areas of the battlefield -OR- could prove deadly to your own Cobra forces if you stupidly keep them closely together around your base. This is basically friendly-fire mode on steroids.

If anyone has played the transformers earth wars app, I honestly think this would be most practical style of G.I. Joe game available. Obviously, Space Monkey has already worked with Hasbro, so that roadblock would be cleared. And the style of game would serve G.I. Joe well. Instead of autobots and decepticons, you would attack with Joes and Cobras. Instead of combiners, you could deploy vehicles. Just like the Bots, each Joe would have a special skill. For example, Snake Eyes would have a skill where he rushes. Duke or Hawk would have a skill like optimus where they make all of your Joes focus on one target. Mainframe would be like perceptor where he can turn one defense against the rest of the defenses for a short period of time. Perhaps the skill of vehicle drivers would be a passive boost to deployed vehicles...
I know this isn't the first rate first person shooter that some are clamoring for, but that isn't likely happening anytime soon. I'd much rather have a game that could be developed in short time, can be played from anywhere, and is a pretty fun game to boot over a pipe dream that isn't happening.

As a child of the 80's I've always been befuddled as to why there has never been a GI Joe FPS or a Marvel/DC true RPG game like Final Fantasy. They just seem like obvious directions to me at least. I remember being excited when the first Joe movie came out for the X-box 360 game, but it was complete trash. Meanwhile, my buddies and I are having a blast playing against each other in gamea like Halo, Star Wars Battlefront, and Gears of War, all the while wondering how there isn't a Joe game like that.

ARAH is perfect for so many different game genres, but for me, an open world action adventure game would be the best. I remember playing Lucas Art's Mercenaries way back when and thinking it was a near perfect template.
The way I envisioned it, the player would create a joe. The choice of military background determines your clothing options and special skills, all of which can be expanded on as you rank up. Say you choose navy, Shipwreck could run you through the tutorial and basics and such. The story would take you from say, investigating a missing contact or submarine, to a secret Cobra controlled island (because of course its a secret Cobra Controlled island). During your mission, the airship is attacked and you and the Joes are separated, leaving you to survive the island and its nefarious secrets. Of course you'll reastabish communication with other Joes and the crashed, semi-operational airship, progressing and gaining skills and tools to navigate the island. Think about the character progress in Metal Gear Solid or the Arkham series. Some segments require stealth, some are straight action, some require special vehicles, ect. Different military choices could also start you in different areas with different skills to start, unfolding the story from different angles with different subplots. Mandatory cobra mode upon completion. |
