When I was a kid I loved the Tactical Battle Platform. I can't say why but I absolutely loved it. I was thinking about it the other day and it occurred to me, there is almost no tactical advantage to having this unit. Basically, all this is is a water target. Think about its defensive capabilities, it has no means, in itself to protect its own rear. The cannon cannot shoot anything coming from behind and the missiles would also be impeded in targeting any medium to small watercraft because the landing platform would block the view. The Bridge, which would accommodate an Armadillo, really goes nowhere and the extra guns would still not help in protecting the rear. The only hope this platform would really have would be if a skyhawk were on the platform. What do you all think?

I think "Transportable" is the major benefit to this base. It can be strategically placed anywhere on land or sea, & provide support for VTOL and rotary wing aircraft.

I had considered the transportable part about it. Think about the logistics of securing it in any deep water, assuming those legs were able to extend any further down. It would take a concerted effort to secure a small platform. While it would provide a benefit if it remained undiscovered I don't know that its advantage would be outweighed by its liabilities. I still loved it as a kid though.

That's the best part about it! As a kid, you can just activate its "force field" to overcome its liabilities!

For me, it was like a mobile pillbox... But one that can be placed on either land or sea. One that held more than just a gun and a user. I also thought that it was under armed as well... For example, there are no weapons underneath the platform.

The '82 Headquarters and the Mobile Command Center have similar problems, in that they also don't have any rear facing weapons and are open on top. Then there's the HAVOC and the Thunder Machine, whose main weapons face forward and don't turn.
