I actually have to side with JJ on the above post. (that distant crack you hear is just the fabric of existence. Ignore it.)
With the Night Stalkers Commander I think its forgivable as its implied strongly by the file cards to be a very limited team and therefore would only require one officer/commander, but for the others they should have created a new code name. |

Its just weird they chose to make a new character with an old code name.
He would have been much more desirable as a brand new character WITH a brand new code name. Especially being a new black gi joe. Maybe Airdrift Stealth Wings Well at least this controversy brought something to this otherwise boring round.

They shouldn't have used Air Raid and Bench Press for Airborne and Rock n Roll when they could've just made them new characters but oh well.

Maybe we'll get a souvenir figure of new BF2000 member Bench Press at JoeCon this year.
The real reason the club fails to create code names for characters or re-uses old ones is probably that they don't want to spend the time, money and effort dealing with validating new trademarks. They saw an opportunity to grab a code name Hasbro had already cleared and took it. Last edited by JediJones; 02-27-2017 at 07:43 PM.. |

Im sure he would work for some joe product.

That'll happen as soon as we get Price Waterhouse Cooper to certify the poll results.

So the time to come up with the name is as quick as thinking of two names you know, and there's no cost involved. By contrast, because some of the words that they are using as code names are common enough that they could foreseeably be trademarked to represent other products, which would prevent Hasbro from selling them under that name. (Which is again why the loophole of having say Hector "Shipwreck" Delgado is permissible as the ""ed Shipwreck is a nickname rather than a designator for the product) |

Thing is though you cannot copyright or trademark a person's name. So long as you use it as either a "parody" of a person, or do like hasbro does with the "not intended to represent ay person living or dead..." you also cannot be sued for defamation, etc. Similarly you cannot register a corporation in the name of an individual (hence why it's Wal-mart rather than Walton's)

That said I could also argue that the chances of there being two Craig McConnels in the team isn't zero so it's not impossible to have kept the same name. But if it aids clarity...

Why would anyone not want Airborne to get his original code name back?
Once he got it back, what's the harm in assigning a now abandoned replacement code name to a new character? |
