ARE YOU A TRUE FAN OF MODERN ERA JOES?
As other threads are constantly refreshed with the discussion about the definition of a "true fan" of the modern era Joes. I came to the conclusion to create it's own thread. As we continue to support the GI Joe line through Hasbro and the Club what is it that defines us as "true fans"? What makes one a "true fan" of the modern era Joes? Are you a "true fan" of the modern era Joes? Let's discuss..... Last edited by sbartek1974; 06-30-2016 at 03:46 AM.. Reason: change title |

That's pretty subjective.
I picked up Breaker in a local card store in early 1982. Been buying Joes since. Took a break from 1992 through 1997 when I saw the rereleases. Then back on hiatus until 2007 when I found a new 25th Anniversary Stalker on a Vintage card at my local TRU. Was buying Joes before there was a cartoon. Been reading the comics since I found the 3 pack reprints at TRU. I collect many toy lines: Transformers MP, MotUC, 4" Marvel, Marvel Select, DCUC, just starting testing the Marvel Legends waters, Mythic Legions, 4" ME Star Wars, GG Retro Star Wars, Sideshow and Hot Toys Star Wars, 5 PoA Star Wars,up coming Mattel Thundercats, vintage D&D, but none of them even comes close to my Joe collection. Joes are the only brand that I collect vintage and modern. Joes are the only line that I restore old vehicles on.

I love the GI Joe ARAH story and the toys. That makes me a true fan. Since 1982 when I was 7. The buying ebbs and flows, but I'm always a fan.

If you bought an 82 Joe in 82 and are still here then your a true Joe fan, i will bump that up to 83.......after that your just a bandwagon newbie along for the ride!
Of course I'm kidding. There is no true Joe fan....what does that even mean? You only collect and have everything? I am not even close in that department. I don't have nor want everything. I eat breathe and sleep this stuff....but I do the same with stat wars comic books wrestling figures, super hero figs ect. But like the poster above, with the exception of comic books, none of my other collections can touch joes. Maybe Star Wars. If you like it and it brings you some form of joy or escape I'd say your a true Joe fan. |

As already established by those who decide such things, nope. I am neither a "true" nor a "real" Joe fan. I am, however, an asshole who dabbles in nostalgia...but not enough to threaten my bank account, marriage or lifestyle.

And that's what it's all about, I think. Makes me sad my son has apparently already "outgrown" action figures. Too cool for 'em now. As he told me a week ago, "They're (action figures) for little kids." I don't mind saying, it hit me right in the heart. To be honest though, he didn't like Retaliation much (found it boring), but he still likes Rise of Cobra.

I also enjoy both movies. They are not great...but they entertain me, and that is all I ask from a movie I watch........plus when I watched RoC in the theatre the first time ...my cheeks hurt from smiling for two hours during the movie....that was awesome.
