I figured if they put any emphasis on Ranger other than they just attended Ranger School or Ranger Qualified they are probably from the Regiment.
If they had Ranger as their whole purpose of being a JOE as in top of the Tab right under their Codename, then they are most likely Ranger Regiment. There are only three Stalker, Beachhead and Sidetrack. Re-reading Dart's filecard I would say he probably is not part of the Regiment, since it only states he is "Qualified" to wear the Ranger Tab. As a Pathfinder he could be part of any other Division/Battalion recon team. http://www.yojoe.com/images/resize/w...rd/02/dart.jpg

This is venturing into speculation (well, we all speculate. This is a bit out there). Back in the '70's when the US realized it needed a counter-terrorism capability it directed the creation of Delta, and ordered the SF to develop a stop-gap capability, which was Blue Light (which most people probably only know about because of Falcon's file card). Blue Light was around for about two years, but it was an odd organization. Colonel Mountel is credited with being the founder, but he was also 5th Group's commander (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Blue_Light). In essence, he commanded an SF Group (made up a of a couple of battalions of Green Berets) as well as the American CT force. He could basically pluck any Green Beret from the Group and drop it into Blue Light should he think they could use that guy's (or, in one instance, girl) specialist skills. How's that for a green-shirt?
Joe could have a similar structure - a large body of "generic" Rangers/Green Berets/SEALs/Marines, with a smaller select high readiness team, all under one commander.

Don't forget Sneak-Peek. His original filecard explicitly mentions that he's a "legend" among Ranger Recon, marking him as one of the more elite Regiment guys on the Joe team.

But that's not what you meant. If you don't like the idea that it was meant to be maroon but they got the colour wrong, then you could think of it as being a deception concept, either from working with/blending in with/pretending to be foreign forces (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_be...ilitary_forces) or possibly along the lines of the Men of the 303 (). On a related note, back in the '80's, only two American units wore black berets: Rangers and Delta. Which of those is a better fit for Dial Tone (who already has a Special Forces patch on his sleeve)? |

I forhot about that patch. His Brazil convention filecard has him as Special Forces. I guess I would say Rangers, just because he has never been portrayed as enough of a badass for me.

Now I am not so sure about Skydive. Since I am not sure how one qualifies The Ranger School staff? All are Ranger Qualified. Do they have to repeat it? Do they cycle back through the 75th?

With Sneek-Peak there is no doubt. I kinda count Crazylegs and Starduster with him since the "enlisted" in the Airborne Rangers.

It wasn't really "Red". It was in honor of Prince... They were Rasberry Berets. ;)

Otherwise why wouldn't they have just used "Medic" at the top of Stalker's original filecard and put in there that he went to Ranger School? Especially since they used "Ranger School" in Scarlett and Clutch's filecards. Last edited by john shaft; 05-02-2016 at 07:20 AM.. Reason: Misspelled |
