My take on Short Fuze;
Enlisted out of High School with a 12B Option 40 contract guaranteeing a spot in Ranger Assessment & Selection Program. Completed the 12B Combat Engineer One Station Unit Training and Basic Airborne Course (BAC) at the top of his class and moved on to RASP Phase I. Washed out of RASP due to his short temper and relative immaturity (a nod to the Declassified comic) and was re-assigned to the 82nd Airborne. Deployed numerous time to Iraq and Afghanistan with 37th Engineer Battalion of the 82nd Airborne and 41st Engineer Battalion from 10th Mountain. Attending Sapper School, Air Assault School, Basic Military Mountaineering, Weapons Intelligence Level I and qualified as both an Explosive Ordnance Clearance Agent and Hazardous Materials Handler He was honorably discharged and completed a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics and Robotics emphasis) from Northern Illinois University (NIU) - a slight nod to the Cancelled Sigma 6 Short Fuze who came with a robot Bored with civilian life, he re-enlisted with an 18X contract, graduating the Q-Course as an 18B Weapons Sergeant with the 10th SFGA with language specialties in French and German. Deployed numerous times throughout EUCOM and CENTCOM on training exercises with NATO and ISAF partners, including a memorable stint with France's CPA 10 (French Air Commandos Unit 10) where he was introduced to the Commando Mortar, his use of which has become as big a trademark as his notorious short temper and use of colorful language. Much to the amusement of his colleagues. Led a 5 man Assault Cell and served as a Breacher in a 20 man Assault Troop as part of EUCOM's Commander's In-Extremis Force (CIF) operating out of Panzer Kaserne, Boeblingen, Germany. Was selected for to try out for the GI JOE composite unit straight out of the Warrior Leader's Course. Serves as the Unit's senior UAV operator / instructor Last edited by Tyroc; 10-22-2015 at 10:16 AM.. |

Damn, Ty, you've incorporated all of the source material--Sigma, Declassified. I always appreciate the thoroughness of your organization. I've had trouble with keeping some Joes at E-4 while assigning two MOS, but the regs aren't perfectly clear on promotions when reclassifying. Could an E-5 who reclassified become an E-4 in his new CMOS? I thought maybe personnel were only promoted in their career MOS. It's a tad confusing.

Here's another way to look at the "engineer" part. Maybe the character in question has taken a basic demolitions course and has some training in basic obstacle construction/breaching, but isn't a full blown engineer in the sense that he's never received training in bridging, horizontal/vertical construction, water purification etc. Maybe the guy enjoys carpentry or cabinet-making on the side so has a bit of an amateur skill set to bring to the table, or did some work as a teenager on construction jobs to round out the "unofficial" skill set.

Actually I was leaning towards Clutch as having served in the 75th Rangers. Not sure on Flash though, I am leaning towards him maybe starting out in Infantry and then moving to a CBRN specialist. Quote:
You know, I always thought Short-fuze's card was a mistake in terminology. It says "Infantry Engineer" with no comma between them so I thought Hama meant Combat Engineer, not two separate MOS. And "Artillery" was mistakenly used instead of Indirect Fire Infantryman, though Hama should've known the difference, but who knows who else had input on the cards. However, I would find it less convincing to go from Fire Spt Spc to a mortarman, because being an FO is a more demanding career. I couldn't imagine Short-fuze choosing a less rewarding career path, but it's a possibility certainly.

That's a great idea as well. I watched an episode of "Surviving the Cut" where they showed students going to the Sapper Leader's Course. I can definitely see a lot of Joe's going through that course as well. |

Since this just came out today. Considering this man was the living embodiment of what we imagine Joes to really be like. I wonder which Joe is most like him? I can't tell from the Fruit Salad on his chest, but I see Ranger tab, 75 Ranger pin, Delta pin on his apulets? I'm going Beachhead?
Here's his BIO (Filecard): http://www.soc.mil/Memorial%20Wall/B...ler_joshua.pdf Wheeler entered the U.S. Army as an infantryman in May 1995, completing his initial entry training at Fort Benning, Ga. In February 1997, he transitioned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served for over seven years as an infantryman, rifle team leader, squad leader, weapons squad leader, and anti-tank section leader, deploying three times in support of combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Wheeler was assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command in 2004, and deployed 11 times in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Wheeler’s military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Ranger School, Warrior Leader Course, Static Line Jumpmaster, Military Mountaineering Course, Basic and Advanced Demolition Courses, Advanced Urban Combat Training, Advanced Marksmanship Techniques, Close Range Tactical M4 Training, Infantry Advanced Leader’s Course, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (Level C) Course, Infantry Senior Leader’s, Military Free Fall Course, and the Military Free Fall Jumpmaster Course. Master Sergeant Wheeler’s awards and decorations include four Bronze Star Medals with Valor Device, seven Bronze Star Medals, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor Device, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, seven Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, As of 21 Oct., 2015 eight Army Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), the Army Service Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Valorous Unit Award (2nd Award), the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and three Overseas Service Bars. I'd say Beach Head is the closest Joe in terms of qualifications. Although didn't the Collector's Club make him former Special Forces? In my opinion I'd rather see Stalker go that route versus Beach Head but that is just me. |

I wonder if the "Basic and Advanced courses" in his bio are informal courses, such as when they allow infantryman to participate in training courses that are really for combat engineers just so they can become familiar with engineer's role in combat and how they help the infantryman.
