I am building some display cases for my figures and was wondering what a good spacing between shelves might be. My cases will be approx 4' square. I was thinking about 6", but I'm not sure. My collection will contain both vintage and modern joes. I don't think that making the shelves adjustable is worth the effort truthfully, so they will be at a fixed height. Also opinions on color? Blue for Joe, red for Cobra? And when they are done, how do some of you arrange your figures... by year? by alliance? by year / name? I was thinking about just going by year and by alliance. Cobra in one case and Joe in the other. Or paint the cases all blue and just go by year. So many decisions, so much excitement. I really want to get my collection out of tubs. Oh and if this is in the wrong sub, please feel free to move it.

I went by year (helped by 3DJoes.com's poster) and allowed a little room for the taller figures like Nemesis Enforcer. Fixed height to look more uniform.
I went one color.

Well for right now, I have all my convention figures in Ikea Detolf cases until I can get more and convert all of my displays to those. Otherwise my main collection is displayed on shelves by Joe/Cobra and year. Then I have shelves for dioramas that usually gets my army builders and a few of the figures I leave out of my main collection or have duplicates of.

Ikea, but they've been discontinued for a long time.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I have 4 detolfs now (scored two the other day for $25 each). Going to build something similar to this I think. I will post some pics soon. Hopefully I will be able to work on these this weekend. Still undecided on the colors... blue and red (or black) most likely. *edit I do like olive drab too...

I finally had some time to work on my shelves. This is what I did today. Two shelves, 46x47, shelf spacing at about 5 3/4". Top shelf is 6 1/4" spacing. Still need to slap on a coat of white. I did not have time to make the doors unfortunately. I plan on making those with a G.I. Joe logo on top. That will be next.
