Flint. It's not about how commonly recognizable one is over the other and since this is a Sunbow discussion. It's Flint. No question. Every time.
Duke got captured more times than he kicked ass. Flint kicked ass more than he got captured. |

I have to go with Duke hands down although both were great characters with great designs and voice actors behind them.

Tough call, but Duke always seemed to be the natural leader, whereas Flint is always too cocky (comics) or too emotionally invested in Lady Jaye (T.V. cartoons)...
It's ironic though, because I think Flint outranks Duke, doesn't he? Duke is a Master Sergeant while Flint is a Warrant Officer... Never having served in the military, I'm not sure that Warrant Officers were more than glorified pilots. I don't know that they could throw their weight around when it comes to the lower ranks... Easily Flint. Duke was too perfect, stuck-up, too businesslike and didn't seem like he ever took time off or relaxed. Flint always seemed like he knew his job was just a job. He knew how to enjoy taking time off to smell the roses (Lady Jaye).

Tough call, I'm gonna go with... Hawk. As for chain of command, I'd say after him, Duke then Flint. But as for just enjoying to watch the cartoon I like them both but probably dig Flint being the team leader on a given mission.

I liked them both I mean Duke's voice actor Michael Bell brought a 2 dimensional character to life and made him almost a real person.
But I'd have to go with Flint, he was badass and was my favorite action figure that I went through 3 Flint's as a kid because I either kept losing him or breaking him with a hammer.

Easy choice. Flint. Favorite Sunbow character period.
It might be the whole "backup QB" mentality but he was the guy you wanted leading your mission. Gritty. Tough. No BS. And the way they worked he and Lady Jaye was perfect.

It's dang close for me.
I like them both for different reasons; Duke is a more straight-laced, by the book, lawful good leader, while Flint is more likely to "bend" some rules, or will disobey orders in order to save a friend/teammate (aka chaotic good). That said, I can appreciate both characters. Both were prominently featured in comics, cartoons, and the toy line. Both Sunbow versions had very cool, distinctive voices, provided by two very talented voice actors. For me, the tie breaker is three fold: 1.) I loved the chemistry between Flint and Lady Jaye. Sunbow LJ had a sexy voice, and if both her and Scarlett were actual women, LJ would be more my style, in both looks and personality. 2.) While I like elements of both Duke & Flint, I more easily identify with the Flint character because I feel it is closer to my own personality. 3.) I never had the 1984 Duke figure as a kid, but I did have the 1985 Flint. In fact, Flint was one of my all-time favourite "go to" characters, leading many missions against Cobra, Skeletor's forces (MOTU), and the Decepticons.
