I would not be opposed to purchasing a loose BFS head. the only downside would be cost, although I personally would not mind.

They didn't say make something like this. They had a new head made for Iceberg by BFS. (Go to the main page and look at the BFS head sculpt news thread and look at pictures 26, 27, 35, 36. You'll see the Iceberg head BFS made for the club.) The club sent the old 86 head (along with the rest of the 86 body) over as a physical paint app example. There was a miss understanding and they used that head instead of the new one during production. The club couldn't afford to have a new head mould made and have another run of heads made for it so they were stuck with the 86 head.
But I have never seen that head before by BFS until it was posted on HT the other day, and I hadn't heard that they actually sent a head over. It wasn't in any of their mockups, that was a Low-Light head painted white as a stand-in. How could the factory ACTUALLY think that they'd want them to take the effort to retool the fucking vintage one, if they were given a new one that looked good? Or at what point did the Club get a prototype? They sure as hell didn't get an entire shipment of everything produced without seeing a proof, that's just not how things work. Does that make ANY sense to you? Either the Club or the factory should have eaten the cost and made it right if they indeed fucked up THAT badly. How many other things are preordered (which is what the "Yearly membership" is, it's a preorder for the figure run, no matter how many people turn red in the face arguing that the figure is "free") and they just say "aw fuck it, it ain't right, but here you go!" I know that if I deliver a product to a client, I have to fix it until it's right, whether they pay for it or not, or else I'm fired. The same with any vendors I've worked with. It's about as unprofessional production work as I've seen. |

Here is my .02, just saying, not trying to argue anything.
Strictly from a tooling versus cost per figure price. Did not the Ori Toys Acid Rain guys do a limited run figure line with 100% new tooling and the single figure retail cost came in at $20 plus shipping at etailers like BBTS? And from personal experience, the club sells me 90% reused tooling figures for around $40 shipped from their store, or around $36 shipped during the subscription. So where does that statement fit within the argument that BFS could work with the club to produce a production model that matches Ori Toys.

But my question, since I have no practical experience with a per unit cost on a license, would the club really be paying a royalty to Hasbro of $10+ per figure, assuming the same production amount and per figure material cost as Ori Toys. Otherwise it sounds like the Club has only two possible reasons they cant make toys like Ori. Either their run is soo ridiculously low that they can barely justify offering figures OR total price difference, and again comparing 100% new tooling figures versus 90% reused tooling, is wrapped up in licensing. Because its clear they are barely spending money on art or packaging quality or getting good help packing undamaged products at the factory. |

And I would counter, look how costly it is to produce the Acid Rain packaging as well as the highly detailed and expensive paint apps as another factor and still the cost is what it is.

When they start producing a full range of differently-tooled figures and accessories, then it's a little more comparable. But yes, I'm also betting on the "so ridiculously low they can barely offer figures." The FSS figures are probably getting runs of 5 or 6 thousand figures or less at best. Quite possibly even less. |

Man, I just read the last 10 pages of this thread and want 20 min of my life back. I'm going back to the scalper vs anti scalper convention set thread. It's like club med there compared this bitching.

Chances are, that's why the first wave of Acid Rain only had the one figure, to keep costs down so that the next wave they could offer the other ones (we have seen two additional styles, which look like the same body with different heads). We also don't know anything about the overhead for Ori Toys. Do we even know who is Ori Toys? Could be lots of reasons why they can produce cheaper then the Club. Don't forget that the Club is limited in what parts they can use. They pay to use the G.I. Joe name, Hasbro parts, etc... There may be requirements that 75% of each of their offerings uses existing Hasbro parts, or something. Who knows. All these arguements about "they could offer them for cheaper" are tiring after awhile. We don't know all the facts so we don't know if they could be offered for cheaper or not. They are offered for what they are.

The Club only has a market of around 6000 members, and not all of those are 3-3/4" and not all of them order the FSS.
