I just got the new issue of Wizard in the mail and their is a preview of the new G.I. Joe comic. In the last panel, Scarlett is talking to another female Joe and refers to her as "Dial Tone." The fact that I've read maybe four pages of comic and they are already changing the gender of characters kind of worries me. What does everyone else think?

Doesn't bother me at all. While Diversity has been a hallmark of G.I. Joe, a little more doesn't hurt.

Did "she" shave "her" mustache?
Maybe it's a "trans gender" Dial Tone, you know for this politically correct new millennium. She's not your daddy's Dial Tone any longer.

DAGH! Loved Dialtone....He's a dude. I'm all for an all gender team, but not by way of changing characters to meet those standards. White characters are white, black characters are black, men and women are men and women. I hate it when artists/writers take liberties with characters to make them appeal to a broader audience. Want more diversity? Then create more diverse characters and leave those already created alone.

Doesn't bother me at all. DDP did the same thing with Doc for GI Joe Reloaded and it worked fine there.

I think that instead of changing genders they should just make new characters.

I'm fine with it. Dial Tone will always be a male to me, but I'd actually rather have more females on the team...

I think it's a shame that IDW threw away all of the rich previous history that not only Marvel Comics, but Devil's Due created for GI Joe.
The DD series made all of the old silly Marvel continuity not only relevant, but more interesting because they are/were Joe fans and created great stories and more character development than anyone could have imagined. Even with Hasbro keeping them on short leashes. I also think it's shitty that Hasbro wouldn't let DDP publish the Hughes Baroness cover, but not IDW has solicited it as a 50/50 with a virgin cover as a 1 in 10 variant. IDW churns out about a dozen useless and boring Transformers comics, and it looks like they have already started diluting the GI Joe line with three new titles pre-movie, with a movie comic coming out as well. Chances are, I'm only going to get the book written by Chuck Dixon because unless the Hama ones are better than the crap that comes in the comic two pack figures, it's going to be a short run. Sorry for the long post, but damnit, I love the Joe team, and I think that IDW is going to F it up!

I don't have access to a scanner right now or I'd post some pics, but the new Dial Tone is a blonde with glasses and freckles. The preview also has the masked assassin character that turns to dust...it's strange
