Not sure why. Couple reasons, I guess.
1- It's a "job" that's sorely lacking in the Joeverse. You'd think a unit like the Joes that are constantly in enemy territory, would need a couple of people trained like the PJs. They got plenty of "get in and get out" kind of guys, but it would make more sense for the Joes to have medics that can fight as well as fix. 2- "So Others May Live" gotta love it. The motto just says it all. PJs just seem like a natural fit for the Joes. Moreso then some of the other "jobs" that they have. I think it would be great to have a unit like that. I sort of use my Sky Patrol in an Air Force Special Ops capacity - they do double duty as Combat Controllers and PJ's. But it would be great to have a more tactical unit of PJ's for the Joes. Your Marine grandfather sounds awesome. I bet he's got a ton of great stories.

That scene is really funny because 7th Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg concentrates on Central and South America. That's their area of expertise. If you had a mission in South America, and you needed Special Ops, 7th Group would be the first unit I would think of. That's just my opinion, but that's 7th group's bread and butter.
When Dutch asks what were they doing there, I suppose the question could be interpreted as a question of what their mission had been. Sometimes the SEALs have had trouble with inland missions. When we invaded Panama in 1989 (Operation: Just Cause), they got hung up in the foliage while coming ashore and were late. They also had some problems with taking the airfield. In retrospect, several strategists have remarked that the Ranger Regiment would have been a better choice for that mission. It's not that the SEALs aren't awesome; I think it's just all about areas of concentration and specialties. I guess that's why we have so many different units to begin with. |

Mayday is listed as "Urban Warfare Specialist".
I know we've talked about her as a possible sniper, but I guess she could do a lot of things - sort of like a SWAT/CQB/HRT specialist. Do we have any other data on her? Wasn't "Barricade" listed as some kind of urban warfare specialist?

You know, a while back, I remember watching the Eco Challenge, which was taking place in the outback in Australia. One of the teams consisted of ex-SEALs and I thought these guys were going to wipe up, you know, but ironically (from what I remember) they got caught up on the water portion. In fact, I believe their raft either sunk or got turned upside down. Very disappointing.
Talking about amphibious Special Ops... the British S.B.S. is amazing. If you have the time to read about them on wikipedia, it's worth your time. They used to come strictly from the Royal Marines, but they can come from any of the branches now. They are some kind of tough. And if you read about the Royal Marines... they sort of make our Marines look not so tough. It's pretty amazing stuff.

Yeah, I'm reading his filecard on yojoe.com and even though his "official" position is "Bunker Buster" it says within the file card, "Barricade, G.I. Joe's urban assault specialist has nerves of steel and trip hammer reflexes for the job".
His uniform was a little weird, but I always thought he was pretty cool. I use him with the Desert Patrol Squad (v3). I think they could use a guy like that in a place like Baghdad.
