You know how Star Wars and Star Trek have novels? I think this would be new and interesting way for JOE get new fans, to hire somebody to write some novels based on the JOE mythos. It does't necessarily have to be ARAH either, but just take some familiar characters and so something different with them and have the JOEs fight a threat. Another angle is to possibly update ARAH?

F them. They shit all over the license with poor and inconsistent business decisions and then we ask that they charge someone else a fee to do it right? Cant stand the movies, don't want to read novels based on the movies.
Current comics are also the best example of how wrong good intention can go. Have Hama approve all print materials, pick someone outside hasbro and paramount and maybe even the current comic writers. One voice maybe would help but nothing will stop the bad business decisions. Same for the figure line, I also say pick a good caster team and kickstart a small line of figures, maybe 4 to start, that look close enough or better and just change the names. I don't think it needs to be repeated how awesome the 3rd party transformer market is. Take the jack assery out of the loop. Last edited by doawork; 07-22-2013 at 04:55 PM.. |

I think they should license out Joe to virtually anyone that wants to help perpetuate the brand. If they aren't doing something cool or interesting with it 24/7 they should give others the opportunity to. Part of what made Joe so great "back in the day" was that it wasn't just action figures. It was band-aids, lunchboxes, pajamas, cartoons, comics, cereal, books, puzzles, board games, trading cards, etc. etc. etc. etc.

As long as there is a consistent continuity across the novels.
Build something like Star Wars' Expanded Universe.

On the one hand, I agree with this sentiment:

On the other hand, I think this might be misguided: Quote:
I've never heard anyone say, for example, "Yeah, that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an alright TV show, but it's the cheap knock-off novels that made me a fan." |

I saw a G.I. Joe novel at Barnes & Noble the other day, no illustrations just classic novel type book. I guess I need to run back over and look again because I can't remember the name of it.....

Published by IDW, edited (poorly) by Max Brooks. Anthology with bunch of short stories. It's okay.

If someone where allowed to to just run with it, it might be pretty good, but I suspect we would get the lowest common denominator. It seems like some people liked the ROC prequel novel, but I never saw it in the store.

RoC novel wasn't bad actually. If the movie had followed the ending of the book (which was the originally script, they changed it for more of a final ending in case RoC didn't ge a sequel) it would have made more sense.
Cobra Commander gets away (the Rise part) and the Baroness tells Duke that even though she was under control of the nanomites, she enjoyed being bad (setting up her return as evil in sequel). I have the prequel (same author as the RoC novelization) but haven't read it yet.
