That makes more sense if we had a chart to show the growth and decay of toy revenue in non movie years versus movie years.
What I get from it is their saying the sales do not go back the way they were before the movie just because its a non movie year and Animation helps keep the people aware of the brand. Obviously, constant big media presense is going to be a factor for Hasbro. Sounds like the Hub is not going to stop anytime soon, and GIJOE may be do for a new cartoon. Its really got to break out of its comfort zone in a real american hero territory. Something needs to dramaticly change if people are supposed to notice gijoe again. Quote:
Step around what?
Still a bit perplexed that Hasbro is still touting Stretch Armstrong (granted, the movie is still in development slated for next year) and Micronauts as new brand concepts. Has Hasbro even done anything with Micronauts since re-acquiring the license?

PoC ran its course, and was replaced by 30th, as what tends to happen with EVERY SINGLE TOYLINE OF THE PAST DECADE.
Might as well complain that Hasbro "cancelled" The Legacy Collection for Vintage Collection 2010, or Transformers Energon was cancelled for the Cybertron line. My point stands.

But yeah, those are Hasbro's "top brands", though I'd maybe place Playskool a tad higher (unless referring to the international angle, Fisher Price might still be dominant in those markets). Quote:
There IS such a graph for Transformers though: http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-...1360336521.jpg Interesting to note that Hasbro's lowest year revenues for Transformers was 2010 when they did NOT have any sort of major media (TF Prime didn't premiere until November of that year). Followed by 2012, where leftover movie stuff constituted 1/3-1/2 of the product for over half the year. Quote:

(Realistically, I think a stronger superhero angle, ala, the Valor vs Venom and Sigma Six days are still a valid angle)

And I'd argue even if GI Joe maintained the PoC packaging style through 30th, it wouldn't have mattered since nobody (from retailers or consumers) cared enough to buy the damn things to begin with. Changes in packaging are the LEAST of the concerns with Joe right now. And if changing the packaging got retailers to give the line an iota of support, then it was "successful".

Doesn't make the point any less valid. EVERY SINGLE BRAND, doesn't matter how successful, sees a branding revision after 12-18 months. Sometimes it's just packaging (like with GI Joe or Star Wars or even Marvel) or a whole new brand concept (like Transformers), something about the line changes after about a year or year and a half on the market.
And I'd argue even if GI Joe maintained the PoC packaging style through 30th, it wouldn't have mattered since nobody (from retailers or consumers) cared enough to buy the damn things to begin with. This isn't another case of un-merited fan boy rage, such as someone returning to the hobby in 2008, and having no clue about how retail, distribution or a business is run or any of the other important facts that count that guys that have stuck with the brand since 1994 and attend every con know and want to pass along in their infinite wisdom to enlighten a newbie. This line has been run with unprofessionalism and no plan whatsoever. There is no denying this, and you're doing no one a service by falling under the assumption that you're in the right with your comments and defending their strategies over the last 6 years. Their strategy hasn't worked. It's why they come to being stuck with a movie that was more successful than they had thought, why retailers are hesistant to carry the brand and why so much of their existing consumer base are irate with them. This isn't the fault of those who have remained loyal to the brand since 2007, or even longer, nor the fault of factory workers in China wanting a decent wage, or even the 800lb gorilla in the room, Wal-Mart. This comes from disorganization, chaos, no long term plan and lack of faith in it's own product in plastic and on film. When Brian Goldner is given a question, that's directly related to the specific brand of G I Joe, and he dances around it, it is not because it isn't performing as well as Hasbro wants. It is because at the moment, He and the rest of his team have no plan for the brand because they have sat on their asses for the last year assuming that Retaliation would tank and the toyline would follow. There's that lack of faith and un-proffesionalism that I spoke of.

Which means personnel changes need to be made. Goldner and DePriest have got to go. Period.

There's that lack of faith and un-proffesionalism that I spoke of. Its the TOY features that made the GI JOE brand amazing as well as the story and awesome characters. I feel like the Joe team doesn't really understand that right now. Sigma 6 hits this on the head and sadly died way before its time. Long live Toxic Zartan. I think they got back to it with POC. The inter-changeable weapons for the bravo vehicles was interesting. The bonus number stickers that allowed you to custom your pieces. Extra heads for the figures. People remember those toys very well still after 3 years of being out. People still talk about POC, what ever the brand was after for GI JOE POC was it. Too bad it came right after Rise of Cobra still sticking to the walls of every store. Or just not exisiting in stores like it was in MD.

Totally agree with you Saboteur. You said it perfectly. Disorganization is the key word.
