His convention special Tiger Force (Beach head v8) file card lists his SMS as: Special Operations Weapons Sargent (18B) - that means he's been through the "Q" course at Bragg and is a qualified Green Beret.

First of...
let's clarify... airborne/ranger qualified or actually served in Airborne/Ranger units prior to Joes and/or acts a Airborne/Rangers for Joes? I have always assumed that once a Joe candidate becomes a Greenshirt they have go thru alot of qualifications to graduate into full Joe status. This includes Jump quals if they haven't already earned their wings...which I assume the majority of Joe have to have, if not all must have. They have to go thru rigorous Ranger/SF training or Ranger/SF like training as Greenshirts Survival Training, Weapons profenciency etc... GI Joe is a highly trained Special Missions Force after all. The only Joes who have served in the Regiment, that we know of, are Duke, Roadblock, Beach-Head, Rampage, Skydive, and possibly Flint. The others could have possibly served in the Regiment, or are simply Ranger qualified. It's an unknown. However, if any soldier earns his Ranger tab, it is correct and appropriate to refer to that soldier as a Ranger. The only Joes who have "Ranger" listed as their job on the Joe Team are Stalker, Duke, Beach-Head, and Side Track v2 - or at least I think that's all of them. I think this discussion is primarily about qualifications, or at least it is for me. If you were organizing your Joes into different Infantry units, you might want to have some idea of their qualifications. Concerning a "pipeline" program for the Joes, I couldn't say. Obviously Airborne qualification makes sense, but it may not be a requirement for the Joe Team... is Cutter Airborne qualified? Was v1 Shipwreck Airborne qualified? It seems that the file cards give us specific information and it might be overstepping what was intended to just assume too much about the Joes' training. In every occasion that the training has been shown, in the cartoon or the comic book, the training is always done "in house". There was never any indication that the Joes received Airborne training after they joined the Joes as greenshirts. It's certainly not a bad theory. It makes sense; all Special Operations soldier have to be Airborne qualified. I just think that G.I. Joe may be unique. It lets certain soldiers have certain specialties, and others can do other things. As I read "G.I. Joe: Declassified" I see that many of the Joes were recruited not just because of their qualifications, but because of some special skill they had. Some Joes come to the team because they are very qualified: Flint, Claymore, Falcon, Duke, Stalker, etc). Other Joes are on the team because they have a special skill or talent. It helps me classify my Joes. These guys are straight "leg" Infantry - they go in this unit. These guys are airborne qualified - they go in the Airborne Infantry unit. These boys are all Rangers - they go in a Ranger Detachment. These guys are all SEALs - they have their own unit. These guys are all Marines - we'll have a Marine Corps unit on board the Flagg. That's just how I do it, but it works for me.

I know some one already brought up the fact that Repeater has it printed on his hat (Ranger) yet it doesn't say anything about this on his file card. I think they really might have been getting a little lazy towards the later years of making the file cards accurate

I love the October Guard. I think it's awesome to have a Special Operations team from a foreign power whose objective may or may not line up with the Joe Team's. Consequently, I like having as many different Characters in the October Guard as I can get. I use Volga and Diana as separate characters. It's just nice to have another character for a team that is already so small. I think like so many issues that have been argued on this thread, it could go either way, and the issue may have to be left up to the individual fan. For example, some fans on here don't agree about which Joes are Marines. I say there are 9, others say 7, some guys say there are only 5. Well, there are good reasons for all those opinions. When you come to my house, it's going to be 9 Marines. If I go to their house, it's going to be 7 or 5 Marines. It's left to the discretion of the individual Joe fan to interpret and apply the information about the character because it's less than clear. That's all I'm saying. Thanks for your time and consideration.

I have ALWAYS considered Repeater to be a Ranger. Putting it in the picture on the package was as good as putting it in the file card as far as I was concerned.

I wonder if they would ever let the fans help write the file cards or give suggestions to the future Joes I know there are a lot of great ideas that people share around here

Well that changes things. I don't know why they didn't make that Beachhead Sabretooth instead. I imagine they wanted to sort of do the same thing with Wreckage. Anytime I see a balaclava wearing joe in Tiger Force I immediately think of the never produced Sabretooth. |

I wonder if they have an updated book about the file cards? I know you can go online to YoJoe.com as well as other places to look up information regarding the cards
