I hope you are right.
In regards to the other post about including DVD/Blu-Ray sales, I don't believe that counts. |

Sounds like a good number to start with going into the official opening weekend. When I saw it ysterday there were quite a few people in the theater.

Where did you hear the $130-135mill budget? I swear I remember hearing, not too long after they announced Joe 2, that they were only getting a $70-80mill budget. Can anyone find confirmation on the budget numbers?

Ok, I did some google searching and it's looking like it was $130mill. So yea they'll have to do about $400mill to get a sequel. I'm sure the overseas numbers will push it over that. Still not sure how it's gonna perform out here in the states though. At the beginning of the week I figured it would make in the $60-70mill range in the opening week and $200+ overall domestic because it was getting such good reviews, but now seeing how its in the 30% range on rottentomatoes.com, I don't think it will be pulling in as many of the "on the fence" viewers who aren't sure if they're gonna see it and use the reviews as a deciding factor. Hopefully it will pick up some steam the rest of the weekend because $2.25 mill doesn't seem all that great, especially when other blockbusters were making in the $5-10mill range on their Wed/Thurs showings. Let's just hope that the low numbers were just because alot of people didn't know it was playing on Tues and playing before midnight on Wed and because they kept changing the release date.

here are the facts.
it is a solid watch, it has a dynamite cast, the plot is not that bad. the acting is ok, not stellar. the embedded fan audience is fairly large for both casual and hard-core fans. it is a sequel to a movie that made a lot of money, despite shortcomings. several of the actors are very hot right now. it has weak competition at the box office. it got a jump-start by opening on Tuesday in most markets, Wednesday in some markets, and Thursday in all markets. This will do well. We will get a sequel.
