... and this MOBAT is still running!
30 year old MOBAT (Motorized Battle Tank) running strong - YouTube I just gave my niece and nephew a few ARAH doubles, including this MOBAT. I was amazed that the motor still works. They just don't make em like they used to! You can tell how excited my nephew is when he first sees the MOBAT run over Big Boa and a Silver Mirage. |

I just put batteries in my custom MOBAT from 1998 and it works too, not as impressive as the original, but I haven't seen one actually move for 30 some years.

Nothing like watching kids play with some old Joes!
I can't wait for the new Tomahawk, I'm getting one for each nephew. Then when they get too old I'm gonna have to have my own kids. |

Great watching. When I first got back into collecting Joes, the MOBAT was high on my "To get" list, I stripped it down and cleaned the sand, grit and muck out the motor then rebuilt it (I had to do this a couple of times as I had no idea what I was doing) Finally it worked, a bit sluggish but it was great to see it rolling along :-)

I traded for one on the Tank a couple of years ago. I asked the guy if it still worked, but he couldn't figure out how to work the switch. Anyway, I put batteries in it when I got it, and it worked perfectly. As long as you don't leave old batteries in it, the MOBAT seems to be one of the best constructed battery-operated toys of the 80's.

I have my two originals and they still work like they did the day I got them for Christmas in 83. The key is not letting the batteries leak as stated before.
And to the other point a battery operated toy now would probably not be running in 30 years....but my MOBAT will still be running in 60!!!! Last edited by MSU44; 03-14-2013 at 11:19 AM.. |

I haven't checked all my mobats but I know one works. Fun thing I did last year when I got my 3rd Mauler. I checked them all to see if they worked(had to do some cleaning and adjusting on 2). I decided to have a little race and ran all three side by side. One blew past the other 2. Either it had better batteries or was in better shape. It was fun AND cool!
