I actually started collecting again because of my 6 month old son. I probably still would collected this line, but just not as intense as i do with him here. He will inherit this large collection i have amassed for him when he is old enough. Then we will rip them open together and have some quality father son time driving my wife mad...lol

If yes to either of those is yes, I would say ditch the collecting. I did when I needed to and slowly got back in, with no regrets. If on the other hand you don't need to sell anything to put money towards anything else, keep the existing collection and cherry pick. It's all about setting priorities, putting your family before yourself, and being responsible with your time and money.

Perhaps the lure of completing a collection is too strong for some and they prefer to remove the temptation completely as opposed to holding onto what they have and fighting the need to hunt. I don't hunt anymore - BBTS is my hero - so time with my family isn't affetced. Besides, that would have to be some SERIOUS hunting to effect homelife. And figure hunting with the kids could be some kind of fun....what kid doesn't want to go to a couple of stores and scope out the various toy sections?

Wow, THAT is in pretty poor taste. Funny, but poor.

Well written, though you'd have to hit some serious bad times to HAVE to sell your collection. With my new baby, I have slowed my collecting considerably, though I haven't stopped. Nor do I intend to sell what I have collected. My daughter comes first, as does my responsibilities not only as a father but as a husband and provider. That said, the future of my collecting is effected. I wouldn't sell off what I have just because I couldn't continue...

Tell you what. Save your collection until the THING happens.
It can happen to anyone. Job loss, spouse job loss, or maybe your spouse isn't working because of the newborn. Then, when push comes to shove, sell. And sell smartly. My marvel legends, DC actions figures and Warhammer miniatures collection got me through 8 months of unemployment back in 2005. 8 Months! You have to understand the Ebay market and sell smart, but when push comes to shove (which it can for any of us) your collection can save your ass.

My question is, does that mean you HAVE to sell your collection?
does a newborn mean that a collector can no longer collect? Sure a baby hits the pocket book and thus means some budgets no longer have room for action figures, but does that mean you have to sell off everything you do have? |
