I totally agree.

Doesn't matter how much care he puts into the conversion, I'm not seeing it in 3-D. Also, I think everyone knows by now that 3-D is mostly just a money grab for foreign markets which can pull in 2-3 times as much money as the domestic box office. I'm glad Chu cares, but in the end he's just doing what he's being paid to do by studio execs who only see $$$.

Horseshit. You're not one to let some facts get in the way, are you? 1. Larry Hama isn't a director. 2. Larry Hama was actually used as a consultant for ROC, FYI. 3. "the guy", or John Chu, whom you seem to have already judged, hasn't even finished Retaliation. At least give it until next April before you litter forums with the the ARAH or die! fanboy rants.

The art direction, animation, and style of Resolute is awesome but its story was a hot mess.

Why do those movies disagree with me? You failed to state why. I can only assume that you are making the assertion that those films were financially successful and therefore were good and that 3D played a part in that.
Such an assertion is completely wrong. As Transformers and the Star Wars prequels have proven, films do not need to be good in order to be box office successes. Both Prometheus and Amazing Spider man got mixed reviews and were nowhere near the quality of other films that came out this year such as the Avengers. Obviously 3D did not help those films be better movies and it will not help GI Joe. It only helped those movies be more financially successful. 3D is nothing more than a marketing ploy to make audiences spend more money to see bad/mediocre films. I have no doubt people will go see this movie but it's going to tank review-wise. I doubt we'll be seeing another G.I. Joe movie for a very long time after this one.

I just think it's ironic, in a pathetic sort of way, that folks bitched about Rise of Cobra in how it deviated from the ARAH roots, and here Retaliation is directed by a director who actually knows what Joe is, and worked to create a film that long standing fans of the franchise would recognize and appreciate.
Yet, the bitching still continues.

Actually, no.
What the Paramount execs and a few others got to see was a mostly completed version of the film. Furthermore, Chu has gone back to add additional scenes and edit others, while implenting 3D technology into the film. It's hardly final.
