Doing an RPG in a forum can be...awkward to say the least, and I agree with the above statements that it can become boring. I mean imagine playing any RPG like Dragons Quest, Final Fantasy, Dungeon and Dragons etc. You make a move or whatever and then you either have to wait a few hours or maybe even days for reactions and to move on with the game. It's like trying to play table top game without the dice and the instantaneous response, at that point I have to wonder why anyone would even bother with it. It is not as if it is impossible to play RPGs over the internet, but generally they have better structures than the slow process of a forum, Pathfinder is a good example of this.
You also have to deal with a lot of other factors, people dropping out then back in randomly, which can screw up a party or storyline. People getting tired of their character/class or people changing their character and confusing other people who were left out of the loop because they haven't been paying much attention to the game. Honestly this is the reason I never even bothered with the RPG forum, it's just too much trouble for my liking. To me if one is to play an RPG it needs to be a get together in some form for it to work properly and to maintain the interest of the players. I understand this creates a timing problem, especially for those who may live on the other side of the planet. Regardless, I feel the practicality of setting up a time frame for users to play and using a proper rolling and leveling system is a much better way of playing than relying and waiting on mods, admins and other users.

I've only got thing going for me in life: (a) manic or (b) depression; either way, posting at a certain time interferes with those

Yeah, like others have said, I just got a little bored of it.
I mean, I really like all the team shit-talking that goes on - that's what makes the game IMO, but I just didn't want to play this time. I can picture myself coming back, but not for a little while. Last edited by Cobra Terrorist; 08-09-2012 at 08:41 PM.. |

but it's a game! with hurts! pew pew!
well, i like it. i suppose team loyalty plays into it- it just seems, especially nowadays with rosters being relatively thin, more folks would be joining back, again, at least for spec ops, instead of more folks quitting. it's a pm and a post, and if you're on the tank once a day for any time at all, why not help your team out? ah, well, boredom apparently beats all that out. |

I have had some invites to play the game here on the tank and have thought it sounded fun, however, the commitment held me back. I get it's just one post a day or something, but sometimes I don't get on the tank for weeks at a time. It's not that I don't like the tank here, it's just other things in life either take priority or distract me and make me not think about it sometimes.
If I played the game, I would feel obligated to the team to get on and post and once it becomes an obligation it no longer is fun, so I just stayed away.
