I've been wondering how rare the Black Timber SE is, what a good estimate on its value MOC. I bought mine online back before I got into the real collecting mode. I didn't even know, of course, that I was getting a Variant dog with SE. Can anyone give me an idea on value here perhaps?

Well it's only worth what the person buying it feels they will pay for it. To me it's a piece of plastic and only worth what I would pay at retail or maybe a little over. Pretty much have the Hasbro philosophy.. it's a screw up,but still worth just as much as the regular to them.
Some people will say it's worth $100 or more.. but it's only worth that to someone who is trying to sell it for that much. Guess what i am saying is that it is worth different amounts depending on the person.

So it seems then the value is being driven mostly by hype rather than its overall rarity.

Pretty much.. there are those who have to have every Variant out there and due to that, it has made the price increase like crazy. Same thing happened with the Yellow Stalker. So now due to just hype and having to have it cause it is a known variant. You can't get one off ebay or any other person cheaper than $100. The most I would be willing to pay for any variant is maybe $25. I have yet to have to resort to that.. but that seems a reasonable price.
I just don't understand the people who bought something at retail.. then when they find out it's worth so much will try and get that much out of it. They didn't do any hard work to get it.. they were just lucky to pick one up off the shelf. I have bought about 5 BH Destros.. (Which people are selling for $30 or more) at retail.. Turned around and sold them to several Tankers in Canada at retail just cause I knew they didn't get them. I have also done the same for the Target Exclusives. I could have jacked up the price, but why should they have to pay more just cause they don't have Target stores there? I believe if someone is a true collector, it's not about the money it's about just having the figures and helping other collectors fill their collections. Maybe I'm too nice, but in the end it's only plastic and not worth my daughters college fund to own. LOL

Blah...Some Variant Chasers can keep them.....I will not pay more than $20 for any thing this small (Vehicles the exception).
Some idiot just has to have it and pays way too much which in turns drives up the price because seller sees its going for that much.... SE and Black Timber are worth at Max $7.99 plus tax.........I have some black paint if I really need the wrong Colored timber since he was never Black in the Show......... |

Well you seem to have your priorities in order, stiil there is something to owning something of which is in limited supply. I have the BH Destro as well, though I swapped the head with the single pack IG.
