The way I see it, I'm glad I had fun with my vintage Joes and beat the shit out of them. Some of them might have been valuable if I hadn't destroyed the accessories, broken thumbs and crotches off, and burnt with magnifying glasses. The memories and fun I had with my toys when I was a kid are worth more than money to me. As for collecting right now, I'm having as much fun as an adult with it as I can. I could care less about MOC value now or later. Toy collecting is too personal to worry about value if you really love what you're doing. If you're collecting for future value, you're in the wrong place.

I think they will be worth what people are willing to pay for something. These are toys and meant for kids to play with so dont expect to pay your kid's way through college with them. A carded mint '84 Storm Shadow can go for 600 sometimes and thats pushing it but open its like maybe 20 bucks maybe a little more if its in good condition. How many of these toys are gonna be in spit shine condition in 30 years and whos gonna care. Hell we might not even be around cause it is the year 2012 know what I mean :-p

As long as there are collectors there will be people buying Joes. How much in 30 years, we'll have to wait and see. I may let my son worry about it since he will be left with tubs of the Sh@t.

I actually agree with Malcolm. I also believe that those who want to collect MOC and sell them MOC, you sell them when there is more people wanting them at that moment in time because things come along that are even better.
I'm an MOC collector but I've already learned that a lot of the things I have will probably not sell that much. I purchased a lot of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" figures when they first came out. Thinking... "Star Trek"...these babies will be worth a lot. Now, you can buy lots on eBay for so much less. I purchased Todd McFarlane's "Spawn" figures...same thing...nada... I have a friend who bought full sets of the "Star Wars" figures from the first two films. I have a full set of the third film. But there is more interest in vintage than the newer figures. The larger Toy Biz "Marvel Universe" figures....I thought there would always be a demand, but now everyone wants the Hasbrok smaller ones. I have the '90s Toy Biz Marvel figures, nobody wants them anymore. The thing that I learned with toys are...no matter how good things are today, something better always comes along. And people tend to move on to the better unless they are vintage. With "G.I. Joe"...there will be demand for the older '80s figures and vehicles. With the 25th, there was demand by those who grew up with the figures. But unlike "Star Wars" and "Transformers" which have been consistent with promoting their line and still enticing children and adults, Hasbro has had it tough promoting G.I. Joe to children with its animated series. I remember when I purchased the GI Joe DTC ROCC and RHINO. I thought that these were one of the coolest vehicles ever made but the interest was not there any longer. I ended up selling my DTC GI Joes about a year ago. Ended up selling both DTC and VvV figures and vehicles. Didn't get much for them but the main reasoning was seeing how much the sculpts of the 25th Anniversary and figures from then on have evolved in a short time in five years compared to the sculpts of the DTC and VvV...I didn't have the love for them anymore. In fact, what I found interesting when I did sell them was those who purchased these figures were not from America, they were from other countries. The same with my Marvel Legends, DC Superheroes, Justice League, Star Wars, etc. I noticed the trend that there were more people buying from Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Mexico, Australia, etc. But I don't buy GI Joes for investment..I was smart to have invested in life insurance and mutual funds since I was 19.

But don't forget the people that are buying them as custom fodder. Those will never be recovered.

Iron Man has two movies out and is a well known, iconic character going back decades. However, a Toy Biz Iron Man from 1991 is worth about $10.00 MOC. A Secret Wars Iron Man from 1984 might get you around $50.00 MOC. Take a look at the value of a MOC, 20 back Destro from 1983. Compare that to a Star Brigade Destro from 1993. Surely the Destro from 1993 being almost 20 years old must be worth a lot of money right? You would be lucky if you got $10.00 for him MOC. Obviously the Destro from 1983 is worth more. Now ask yourself WHY? Back in Junior High, I remember lots of kids that had Joes and every one I remember had Snake Eyes. There were millions of kids that had those back in the 80's when they came out. How many kids today are got those 25th anniversary figures? Sure Hasbro made a lot less of the 25th anniversary figures and many figures were purchased for customs. Ask yourself this. How many kids PLAYED with them? Compare that to how many kids played with their joes and lost parts, broke thumbs, wore paint, ect. from the 1980's figures. There has to be a DEMAND for them in the future for them to have a high value for them. I would not expect that to ever happen. What kids today would want to collect them in 30 years? Very few. If you got 25th, POC, ROC or anything else current, buy them for yourselves to enjoy either MOC or loose. I would NEVER waste a penny on them in the hopes of investment.
