Cut off the one source of wich people are able to buy anything at any time and demand will go up. People want what they cant have. To say that peoples demands for a figure wont go up once the source is gone is silly. Look at bats. People will do horrible things to get them, and they are still in stores. Ebay is still usually cheaper than collector shops. I remember back before ebay I'd have to pay an arm and a leg for Transformers that weren't all that rare, just rare in my neighborhood.

anyways though to everyone else ofcourse things will always be available, but ebay connects the entire planet and makes things from all over the world readily available at any time. kill that source and your pretty limited to where you can get things. Before ebay, it was somewhat difficult to find a lot of things that i collect. Ghostbusters, MASK, he-man and so on. With ebay i can find any of those at any time and if i look enough i can get them for dirt cheap |

Ebay is the original scalper engine! It used to be America's Garage Sale...not any more. Ebay themselves carve into what you make on an item till it bleeds!
I dont think that what we know to be scalpers would exist. Something similar would though. There is a store at MainPlace in Santa Ana, that was selling the Gold Coin figures for 25.00 each. Honestly i feel bad for the guys that want the items but cant find them, I dont feel they should have to pay the high prices that ebay has on these. Now on the other side, I have enjoyed using ebay to expand our vintage collection. With the new line at high prices, the vintage line gets a break. |
