Mainframe comes with 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" floppy disks! Look at the carded image carefully, those aren't stickers for the computer. I wish he comes with his backpack though with the hose to connect his hand held mic/walkie talkie. I do like how his computer will have longer legs though.

I'm totally happy when we get new figures, but I also get very picky about the parts Hasbro chose to build them with. The 2 figures that I'm most excited about during this wave are Mainframe and Scrap Iron. I think the job that Hasbro did on them looks great, but it also can't make me wonder about the "what if" when certain other parts could have been used to enhance their looks to resemble their ARAH counterparts.
Mainframe aka and I gasp, Dataframe: I feel that Hasbro could have used the Viper's torso and upper arms to make Mainframe look more like his 1986 counterpart. Maybe even Duke's torso. Other than that I think he looks great except for having Dial-Tone's gun. The original Mainframe didn't come with a gun. It's nice of Hasbro to to make sure he was "packing heat" but if that was the case I feel that a pistol would have been sufficiant. Hey maybe there is hope for a Dial-Tone now that his gun has been re-molded. Scrap Iron: I have a similar issue here concerning the choice for Scrap Iron's torso. I'm wondering if a Shipwreck or Ace torso would look better here if Hasbro could have painted on his red undershirt. I also think that Ace's lower torso could have been painted up a bit in the crotch area to resemble the red outline that the original 1984 Scrap iron had in that same area. Even better than that would have been some sort of webgear similar to the straps that Snow Serpent has around his crotch piece. Another minor change that I might have made would be to give Scrap Iron the red holster on his right leg. This might have been done using Shipwreck's upper right leg if it lined up with the lower leg of the Cobra trooper. Or even a Beachhead/Firefly upper right leg. Maybe they could have even used a similar style webgear belt and holster that came with Wave 9 Hawk to go around Scrap Iron's waist. Ok that's enough nitpicking from me for now. In any case I am very excited that we are getting these 2 figures. They pretty much come close to resembling their original ARAH counterparts as it is.

So does anyone else think we'll be seeing that alternate BeachHead head used as Overkill somewhere down the line?
The head looks a lot like the spytroops Overkill. |

These comic packs are awesome. Even the Scrap Iron pack, which is the least appealing of the sets. I love how Wild Bill has a costume accurate to one of the RAH versions, and a pilot helmet. Thats a neat touch that I did not expect. Scrap Iron is a neat retool, surprised how good it looks using the trooper body.
Now while the Hard Master set impressed me the most when I first saw it(those weapons rule...training weapons? Who saw that coming?! Sweet!), the Beachhead/Mainframe set takes the cake. We have a Beachhead with a new headsculpt reminscent of the original head sculpt on the RAH version from the 80's, and an alternate head, as well as Mainframe with a bunch of new accessories. The Beachhead head sculpt is neat, I didn't expect that one either, this whole time I thought we were just getting a Beachhead with new accessories, I am glad I was wrong. Its too bad Hard Master has Duke arms. I hope that this time around, the elbows can bend all the way, its bad enough on Duke, but on a ninja master? Man thats dissapointing if the elbow can't move all the way. I dig the mask, and especially the accessories, to my knowledge, this is the first time Hasbro has produced a dedicated display stand for ninja weaponry. For a huge Storm Shadow fan like myself, this is a long awaited, unexpected accessory. I hope we get a Storm shadow in training too...it would be a neat variant. |

Just pretend that they're some super-secret modern storage media only used by the US military that hold 500 GB each or something. Either that or just wait until they get lost, then ignore them, because I know mine will!!

Yea, or it's some super hacking tool that will allow Mainframe to disable Cobra Island's Televiper comm. system. When DDP killed Mainframe and Flash off they were doing something like that during the second Civil war.

I think the visor on Scrap-Irons helmet looks better on the Arctic Scrap-Iron from the Extreme Conditions 7 pack check out the pics below. Something about the head on the Arctic Scrap-Iron just looks better in my opinion and I think its the clear/smoke visor.
What do you guys think? I'm a bit underwhelmed with the comic pack Scraps after seeing this custom: link. Going to have to do some mix and matching to improve on him a bit (first by stealing that clear visor). Which speaking of, if anyone's buying the arctic pack to troop build and doesn't want Scrap Iron, send me a PM. |
