Always wondered about that. Makes a cool visual, though, which was probably the toy designers' primary concern at the time. At least the 25th Anniversary version of Tunnel Rat comes with what looks like a .38 caliber revolver (the weapon of choice of American and Australian tunnel rats during the Vietnam War).

It's not really redundant. Barrel Roll is the only the Joe with the job title sniper. Problem is he's USAF. Air Force uses the Sharpshooter designation, which is more of a defensive role and open to women. Crosshairs' filecard has him performing the sniper role, but doesn't call him a sniper. The Low-Light figure was designed to be a Navy SEAL sniper, but his convention filecard is the only one that really has him doing sniper things. Volga was a sniper as part of the Oktober Guard. Scarlett went to sniper school. Everyone else just has a marksmanship instructor specialty.

Snow Job on the one hand would be a perfect candidate to attend something like the USMC high angle (mountain) sniper course. |

In a two man team, the spotter is usually the more experienced sniper. The spotter makes most of the wind and distance calls and help the shooter get on target.

Good point. A friend of mine who was a sniper in the Army told me this a couple months ago and I was surprised at first, but when you read about it more, it makes sense that the experienced sniper is the primary spotter.

Yeah, that does make sense.
I always figured T-Rat's scope was night vision. So he could lay at the end of a tunnel and clean it out with the M60.

Yeah but if there's no light in the tunnel, the scope, which relies on starlight, isn't going to reveal anything. Maybe if he's outside the tunnel, but then there's still the issue of having a scope on an M60 which only fires on automatic.

I saw this documentary on NGC called Restrepo. It was about an Army outpost in Afghanistan. It appeared a few of the machine gunners had scopes. I'd think you'd use the scope to acquire the target at distance and use finger control to fire bursts without the excessive muzzle climb( never personally fired a machine gun).
