You make a very good point, CTG. I apologize if I came off as combative initially.
If we are discussing this (as opposed to debating this) I'd like to add: Not every opinion deserves to be treated as if it is an inalienable gift of pure thought given to the world. The Nazis had an opinion. The cops who hosed down and loosed dogs on civil rights protesters had an opinion. Just because a thought is conceived in a person's head does not mean it deserves NO introspective evaluation or confrontation. This is a fact of life. If we didn't do this - if we didn't agree as a group it was important - we'd still think we exist on a flat plane carried on the back of a turtle. I know this is a scary idea to some, because it's one of those 'slippery slope/where does it end' ideas, as if humans have no capacity for measurement or gravitas. I disagree that everyone's opinion is untouchable. Certainly, they have a right to say it - but I would suggest that if it is so foolish, or repugnant, or contrarian that it becomes a necessity to say something. Tom I would like to add this is response. I believe even Nazi's have a right to voice their opinion and be heard and it is the right of others to voice their opinion "against" it. But, if doing so with "hatred" towards those that hold that belief, no matter what side you're on. You will never change the mind of the opposition by saying "you're wrong" or your "disgusting". They will never hear anything past that unfortunately. That being said I beleive it is when opinion becomes physical ACTION against another human being or group of people that the ACTION needs to be stopped. I do not believe in flag burning or book burning, but ultimately it doesn't hurt anyone. It's an action that everyone involved already holds the same opinion on, an action that I do not see changing anyone's opinion.

Saying "hey this sucks!" without saying why helps no one. How does that help a designer and/or brand manager? One can be brutally honest without being elitist and/or rude. Buying something that is of lesser quality as a show of support is speaking with your wallet, actions speak louder than words and that action equates to supporting and guaranteeing that items of lesser quality will continue to be made.

Like you, I don't agree with flag burning but people have the right to express themselves and display their anger with the government (and I was Army Infantry, so that's saying something ; P ) same goes for book burnings, even though nothing good ever comes from those sort of destructive displays. I'm glad we could have a discussion instead of an argument, CTG - thanks. : ) Tom

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

Screw a discussion, we need some flames and heat coming out of this thread. This place is about as cold as ice.

Ok, here's why you people are wrong. This is not an opinion, it's a fact. When was the last time the GI Joe brand was considered a major force in the toy biz? RoC? Nope. VvV lol, no. Extreme? HAHA! It was ARAH. So until something becomes more popular than the national craze ARAH was, it doesn't matter what you people say. The brand has not and may not return to it's former glory for reasons that are beyond even Hasbro's control, but the fact that ARAH was the last major success for the GI Joe brand gives it's supporters the right to use it as the standard bearer. Your opinions of how good or bad the show held up means nothing. When GI Joe "Pancake Force GT" comes out and takes the world by storm we will all shut up about ARAH, but until then... Deal with our bitching. And please people, keep it civil. We're all grown ups and just because you disagree with me doesn't make you a bad person...it just makes you wrong. ;P

so its supporters certainly do have a right to use it as their standard bearer, but its use is extremely limited. any attempt to project it beyond what it is -- great idea for the perfect time, is flawed. that is also a fact worthy of discussion. |
