Instead of looking at " speaking out against" negatively, could you not see it as constructive criticism??
Most people who speak against usually say what they like and don't like...and hopefully Hasbro listens. Fans need to be heard by Hasbro through forums becasue they will not entertain fan-boy phone calls...there is no other outlet. And everyone has a right to an opinion. LOL We should have three threads on every subject that you can pick from to post to. 1) For 2) Against 3) On the Fence. If you choose the wrong thread to express your opinions, then you would deserve to be flamed as a troll LOL

But by saying 'hopefully Hasbro listens' that implies every critique has a virtue of it's own and deserves to be heard. It's the same with anything. Politics, for example: the most vocal people are out there speaking their mind - but it doesn't always make them right. Heck, even the majority can be wrong. Can I go into a five-star restaurant and tell them they suck because they're not as successful or popular as McDonalds? : ) Tom

90% of complaints by fans (of any fandom) are nonsensical or unwanted. It's usually about bringing back the original property in some capacity or replacing different elements of the new property with favored elements from the original property.

The way they are keeping renegades figures relaisitic vs. animated was a bunch of nonsencial morons who had no voice to be heard? I do not subscibe to your siloing of people based on your belief on how the internetz should be run. Let freedom ring... |

CG - You're correct - you have a right to complain. And everyone loves a complainer.
I find it funny that you readily go to comfort words like "elitism' and that I must automatically "think everyone is beneath (me)". I already stated I try to avoid people who want to make their hobby all about how awful it is NOW, how great it was THEN, and how much better it would be if people would just listen to THEM. See my post count? Low. I have so little to contribute to the bickering and whining that goes on within these forums. Every bit of news is an avenue for people to cry and act like they're some unappreciated genius. This topic just grabbed my interest. I'll disappear as soon as we're done and leave you on your righteous struggle of free speech to be as annoying as you possibly can with your hobby. Tom

Your words are your opinion and you are entitled to it just the same as a "complainer" has the right to theirs, which is the reason why I can't understand that if You have the right to have an opinion, why can't the opposition. If you truly believed your words, why would you have written them in the first place? On top of that... as soon as someone takes the "I'm right, You're wrong" position, it's war time. Politics, Religion, My God is true yours is false, dude....in a true constructive discussion everyone has to be open to the possibility that they may be wrong...and learn from the other side. But as soon as someone says someone else is wrong, people tend to get offended, then all hell breaks loose. So I would suggest that anyone who truly wishes that the complaints would go away is to either constructively learn from each other about the subject in civilized conversation, or ignore it completely and find a thread that supports your belief.

Not picking on you, because this is a "situation" that runs rampant on many boards, but especially this one for some reason, so I am using your quote to speak out on the subject.

If we are discussing this (as opposed to debating this) I'd like to add: Not every opinion deserves to be treated as if it is an inalienable gift of pure thought given to the world. The Nazis had an opinion. The cops who hosed down and loosed dogs on civil rights protesters had an opinion. Just because a thought is concieved in a person's head does not mean it deserves NO introspective evaluation or confrontation. This is a fact of life. If we didn't do this - if we didn't agree as a group it was important - we'd still think we exist on a flat plane carried on the back of a turtle. I know this is a scary idea to some, because it's one of those 'slippery slope/where does it end' ideas, as if humans have no capacity for measurement or gravitas. I disagree that everyone's opinion is untouchable. Certainly, they have a right to say it - but I would suggest that if it is so foolish, or repugnant, or contrarian that it becomes a necessity to say something. Tom

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but with regards to Hasbro and any other toy company, constructive criticism helps. There are a great number of things that changed within the toylines during the past few years, that would have never happened had fans like us not spoken up.
Saying "hey this sucks!" without saying why helps no one. How does that help a designer and/or brand manager? One can be brutally honest without being elitist and/or rude. Buying something that is of lesser quality as a show of support is speaking with your wallet, actions speak louder than words and that action equates to supporting and guaranteeing that items of lesser quality will continue to be made. What we all want is more good than bad. I don't think it's a secret that most mainline Transformers have full articulation due to very vocal criticism during the Armada trilogy. I highly doubt a child had anything to do with the 25th Vipers getting "fixed" wrists in the HOH and later 5 pack. The Resolute sets were not the results of children but the very vocal demand for Resolute figures by the fandom and criticism for the lack of figures(until this summer). I could go on. Support the good stuff, only buy what you want, and constructive criticism benefits us all. That's the only kind most of the teams will even listen to. Hell proof of this is in the q&a answers too, those recent answers are very informative and elaborate, nothing like earlier this year, where Hasbro got a rather scathing reception. |
