^ LMAO, this. As I'm former Army I really could care less as long as the sailors are happy. I was shocked, and jealous when the Army finally phased out the dress green uniform. Man, those things were crappy. Back to the Navy issue, isn't a pair of combat boots, and a full set of camo fatigues gonna suck to swim in should you go overboard?

Well in all fairness the original Army uniform was blue. Also, the fabric in the dress greens was that cheap crap. Nothing worse then a cheap green suit, IMO.

Navy vet here!
The reasons for a switch to cammies are many and varied, and include everything from "cammies look cool and we want to wear them too" to "we have too many --- uniforms." The cammies were (I don't know if this remained true, since I got out in 07) supposed to replace utilities, coveralls, woodland camo, working blues, and working whites. I guess a final point in their favor is that people tend to associate personnel in camo as distinctly military - a lot of Navy working uniforms make us look like gas station attendants, so this is a good change. Looking like I'm actually in the Military instead of working for Exxon is a bonus. The Navy Service Uniform (Black and Tans or Peanut Butter Cups) replaced the 'Johnny Cashes' and the 'Ice Cream Man' outfits (Working Dress Blue and Whites) Quote:

You can't beat the dungs for wearability and comfort though. Bell bottoms were awesome. But like Jim Lee on a new title... an update was inevitable! Last edited by Night Viper 143; 07-02-2010 at 06:26 AM.. |

Active Duty E6 here:
I love you Flint, but it's harder to see some of them more so than others on the new uniform (LTJG especially). And no velcro pads for us either. We have to do the embroidery thing. I don't know about our 'boots on the ground' guys. They may have something different going for them. Come to think of it, I don't know that I've seen the new Navy fatigues and I was at Walter Reed, and at the Navy Hospital in Bethesda a month ago for promotion ceremonies. |

Now I didn't say folks weren't using velcro anywhere, I just haven't seen it in Hampton Roads yet.
'boots on the ground' is what we call all our sailors in the desert and other places supporting the ground pounders. |

On an only semi-related note, I just just like to say that of all the uniforms I wore, I miss my red-and-greens/blues the least. Those flight deck jerseys sucked x.x

That wouldn't boost my confidence. I'd let someone else test them first. Interesting concept, though. However, wouldn't your feet being bouyant and your uniform not, make it harder to keep your head above water?
