Wow that is pretty deep and personal. I'm glad you posted that and I got to read it.
I personally have it good because I "get" to catch up being that I missed so much. I dont wanna fall into the Roc trap and bash the new TMNT before I actually see it. |

Good to see fans...I didnt see the whole CGI movie but on a tip off I saw the fight between Raph and Leo on youtube...I think Im gonna buy the movie now, looks really cool.
I went to the comic shop the other day and picked up the original Eastman and Lairds TMNT...I just read it for the 1st time last night. Why they put THAT book in section with the "kids comics" is beyond me....A woman gets violently beaten up, someone gets killed for it, revenge is sought on that person...theres more killing and blood...NOTHING like I thought it would be and really nothing like the cartoon I was watching as a kid. Now that I caught up with the Turtles I'm a little pissed its a Nickolodean thing....I dunno, it would've been better staying with the 200x stuff or even Fast Forward.. Hell...if they wanted to make it really "true"..they could do something after the 1st comic and put it on Adult Swim. The 200x series was really faithful actually sure it toned it down a bit and they altered the Shredder and Baxter Stockman a bit to give them some new twists so they could keep on bringing them back... but otherwise it followed the comic for the first several arcs almost exactly. Including having direct quotes from the comics. The comics were originally intended as a parody largely of Frank Miller's grim and gritty take on Daredevil... with the over use of film noir narration... the Foot clan (instead of Hand Ninja), The Splinter (off of the Stick) and so on... It was meant to be a one and done parody but proved to be immensely successful. It produced a pen and paper RPG which was extremely popular when it came out... which was definitely aimed at older audiences (the first edition had a list of sexual deviencies that characters might have)... That game had numerous books but the cartoon largely killed it (and they went off into their own version After The Bomb which was less dependent of the comics). But yeah people would put the mirage comics in with kids stuff cause they don't know better... or don't know the history of the Turtles.

Which? the 80s cartoon, the Archie comics, the RPG, the Mirage Comics, the movies, the 200x series... be specific.

Yeah..the funny thing is I picked it off a rack that has a sign on it that says "Wholesome Comics" Then I read the where the woman was beaten and Splinter's master killed Shredder's uncle...I had to laugh..lol..wtf is "wholesome" about this!!....Def awesome, but def not the Turtles kids were watching in the late 80's....I mean not even CLOSE!! I wasn't crazy about Casey Jones' character in the 200X stuff...I actually liked him a bit more "pyschotic"--As "corny" as the original cartoon was...that guy could hang with the best of the anti-heros out there. He just seemed a bit....dumbed down in the current cartoon, but not something that couldnt be overlooked in the grand scheme of things. Now I'm looking things up purposley to find comics in the vein of the 1st one that has some focus on Casey. A one shot about Rapheal?...Something like that keeps comming up..any idea the title?? |

I loved TMNT as a kid. A friend of mine has pretty much the entire action figure line, the blimp, the van, the sewer, the caddy, etc. I actually have a running joke of stealing Slash from him every time Im over =)

I've got pretty much all of the TMNT collection too, except for bits and pieces here and there, but I've been noticing over the last year or so, the secondary market value on this stuff is jumping up big time. It used to be you could get turtles stuff for next to nothing. I'm seeing some crazy prices lately.

The 25th stuff is getting really up there in price--hovering around 20+ a figure.
The NECA figures, individually--which is how I wanted them because of all the weapons and the display stands..honestly are out of my range for right now. 60.00 a figure?? Wow! Better off with the Boxed Set for less than 100.00 All of the sudden its getting "cool" again and with that, here comes the demand. |

Really they're still on the Pegs here... maybe I should pick some up.

I have checked Toys R Us, Target, Wal Mart and everywhere else. They are gone. No sign of wave 3 either. After what I'm seeing on ebay..if I had em here I would pick up doubles, one to keep and the other for sale. They demand is certainly rising. Plus being that its a "Nick" thing now--who knows, these may be the last time we see the turtles in their "original" form. |
