It seems you're getting the RoC storyline confused and mashed up with the Marvel storyline. The "vowed not to speak" thing is from RoC Being "adopted" by the Arashikage Clan and Hardmaster catching an arrow to the chest from Zartan because Firefly wouldn't/could'nt do it...is the Hama/Marvel and as far as many of us are concerned, correct version. Even Resolute's portrayal of Storm Shadow is different then the Marvel run. It is a very deep story and basically a huge story arc inside of a huge story arc....but for my money the Marvel/File Card is your bottom line. |

What's wrong with a Japanese American serving in Vietnam? Many Japanese Americans served in WWII against Japan as did Americans of German descent. I guess when people see "yellow" people, people automatically assume that they aren't American. That's the same philsophy that put Japanese Americans in detention camps while whites with German blood weren't.

Although his original filecard lists his birthplace as 'Classified', his G.I. Joe comics homepage bio(linked from YoJoe) lists his Birthplace as San Francisco which would make him an American and explains why he might serve in Vietnam with an American unit. If he grew up in San Francisco, I would say chances are he is a liberal. But stricter Japanese influence (Ninjas are very disciplined)might make him more conservative. Isn't politics something we aren't supposed to discuss in the forum? Last edited by Moses; 04-10-2010 at 06:38 PM.. |

It seems very simple. Storm Shadow was a Japanese-American born and raised in America who probably spent his summers or part of his life training with his ninja clan in Japan. When the Vietnam war broke out, his Japanese relatives in Japan encouraged him, as an American, to go and fight in a real-world combat situation to hone and test the very ninja skills he learned while training in Japan.

It would seem that Storm Shadow and his ninja clan were less interested in politics and more in whether or not Storm Shadow could test and prove his ninja skills on the battlefields of Vietnam.

I've never questioned the Japanese-American thing. What I did question as a kid reading the comics is whether or not he would have been allowed to carry a compound bow as part of his gear in Vietnam?

Does this thread qualify as discussion of politics?
If so, I am out of here... |
