I have decided to "unretire" my Skystriker and try to restore it as close to it's original glory as possible. My question to my fellow 'Tankers is this: Should I keep the original stickers on, there by keeping it as "original" as possible? Or do I pull the old stickers off and replace them with new ones, hopefully giving it a cleaner appearance?
I have weighed pros and cons for both and have come to no conclusion. My biggest dilema is this: I wasn't exactly accurate, or by any means neat, when I applied these stickers as a child. If I pull the original stickers off, I don't plan on replacing every single one. I'm concerned there will be faded areas where the stickers were that I don't replace. And I'm not exactly a pro at refurbishing 25 year old toys. All thoughts and opinions are welcome. Last edited by Blueman; 02-03-2010 at 06:51 PM.. |

im doing the same with a snow cat...new paint, fresh stickers...as much as i want it to be "original" it really only matters if you plan on selling it, but if its for your pleasure only (jokes aside) then throw some new ones on there and make that baby shine

Here are my Skystrikers. I first disassembled the jet, then peeled the all the stickers off and then used goo-gone and q-tips to remove the sticker residue (see tutorial). I then washed the Skystriker with dish soap and a plastic bristled scrubber, then rinsed and dried it with a hand-towel. I then let the jet air dry, then reassembled it. I then applied Ruben Jiminez's reproduction stickers.
You mentioned worries about "faded" areas where the stickers come off. They are there, but they are really not noticeable. Usually, the new stickers cover them anyway. I have been very happy with the results. Scroll down for a full tutorial on restoration of a MOBAT tank: A Real American Hero

Those look awesome. How did you get the canopy so clean? Mine has a faint yellow tint to it. Better question, how did you get them so white? |

...If there is fading, go to the local Wall Mart and buy 6 1liter bottles of Hydrogen peroxide and a large tote. Yjey should only cost about a 1$ a bottle. Fill the tote with the peroxide, place your sky striker inside and secure the lid. Check on it every 3-5 days and see how she whitens back to shiny newness! Tankers are the best JOE fans!

Peroxide?? Never would have thought that. Not to sound ignorant, but what about using bleach?
