You'd get 2-3 versions of Snake Eyes (first a basic one everyone loves, then another version, and then a final "deluxe" version with everything the first two versions had, pissing off the people who bought the earlier ones), Duke, Cobra Commander and 3-4 variants of the Cobra Trooper. They'd all be $160-180 each, with at least the same amount of accessories the Sideshow ones had. And then they'd stop the line and move on to something else. And you'd be very lucky if they didn't just base everything on the movie. Don't get me wrong, they'd look great either way (just look at the Spirit figures - they look great even though they're based on a crap movie, WAY worse than RoC), but with Sideshow, the price is lower and the line has the potential to be another Star Wars, with dozens of characters. That doesn't seem to be Hot Toys m.o. They like to focus on only a few characters (and sometimes skip key characters, or mess up big time when they can't get an actor's likeness), and then move on. Their face sculpts (when they can get the actor's permissions) ARE awesome, no doubt. The new Dutch figure from the Predator line is one of my favourite pieces, and I hope we get more Arnie figures in the future. However, that's less of a concern when action figures aren't actually based on real people, which is the case with GI Joe.

I'll tell you what they'd do.

I liked that movie though...good cheesy lines, hot chicks, and you KNEW from the get go that it was a comedy. People razz on that movie not realizing that Frank Miller made a movie that perfectly embodied the cornball detective/action hero. |

But yeah, the Spirit figures Hot Toys did are really nice. You should check out Hot Toys' website, or one of the forums like Sideshowcollectors.com. They've done some amazing stuff. They've come a long way since they did the old Aliens Colonial Marines and AVP Preds, which I hope they revisit someday... It'd be nice to get a Hicks and Ripley that actually looked like the actors.

Spirit wasn't meant to be a comedy though and the character has never been a cornball/detective action hero. The Spirit is a pulp character, a noir character. Nothing cornball about him.

cuz if you are you're dead wrong. The 30s Spirit comic strips were actionpacked comedies. thats why you got stories where the Spirit beats up lower thugs without flinching. Or get taken in my a pretty girl. Or gets the cream beaten out of his corn almost every time he went up against a big bad guy. The only thing noir about it was that he wore a fedora and went after gangsters. |

Only thing I realized during that movie was how much I wanted to turn it off, and that has only happened to me once ever before during a movie (Eraser - also noteworthy as I love Arnie films).

^ This is the root of your problem. You aren't looking for Hyper-realistic 12inch action figures, you are looking for Animated Maquettes

Although the 12"ers brought G.I. Joe to the world and I am grateful for that, I have no love for them as collectibles. Too big and too expensive for my tastes.

Cobra Commander's head is too big.

and Snake Eyes has too much crap. He's a fucking ninja commando!!!
how's he gonna be silent with all those pouches on his pants? Quote:
I swear, true story, one time I went to the Army surplus store and loaded up on belts and pouches to see just how much crap I could carry, one of the clerks even helped me because he was bored. I had a ton of crap on me, but still only one of everything useful (like one knife, one poncho, one grenade, ect.), and I STILL had a ton of pockets left over. I still can't figure out why a soldier needs that many pockets, my guess is they have bars of C4 or 10,000 rounds of ammo on them!

Same problem with Snake Eyes. Pair that up with loads of gear on his lower body and Snake eyes ends up looking imbalanced.

Its the lack of prominent shoulders that really brings out the melon headedness of Cobra Commander.

They tried to fix this problem with a coat with big shoulders.

and because they've stripped the figure of any fantasy elements...we'll probably never get one with the battle helmet.
