You guys know how to stop all these SEs, Dukes, Destros, CCs, etc.. from being made?
DON'T BUY ANYMORE!!! Hasbro makes 'em. We buy 'em. Sales, which is what Hasbro goes by, says we must like 'em. So they make more.

I understand your logic but Hasbro has made a ton of bad decisions. Walmart shouldn't have had to mark the GI Joe line down to $5 to make them move. Maybe 500 versions of Duke and 500 Snake Eye's is a bad idea..... I'm not taking a shot at you Troynos, I'm just saying what everyone is thinking.

They wouldn't make 500 Dukes/SEs if people hadn't bought all the ones they had made previously. All toy companies will produce more of the more popular figures. How many Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverines have there been already in the Marvel Universe line?
Companies do their research, see which figures are the most popular, and go and produce those. Those figures sell, they produce more of that character. With a line linked to a movie, especially a movie with few main characters, you're of course going to get more of those main characters because those are the ones that the target audience, kids, will identify with. At least in the RoC line, all the different Dukes had different purposes. In the 25th, all we got was different colors. I'm fine with getting a normal Duke, an Reactive Armor Duke, an A-Suit Duke, etc.. I'm not fine with getting normal Duke, Duke with muted colors, Duke in different shades, Duke in different webgear, Duke in green uniform, etc...

I don't want to pretend that I'm speaking for anyone else. Please understand that this is only my opinion here: I'm not sold on the theory that Duke/Cobra Commander/Destro/etc are the most popular characters. They are just the core characters. Hasbro's marketing strategy from the launch of the 25th line was to over produce the core characters and under produce the back ground characters. I think a lack of variety has hurt the modern line from day one. Both GI Joe and Cobra have a ton of different characters and sub groups. I think that Hasbro has pushed this core group of characters because Joe's history can be confusing to a new consumer. Honestly the crazy variety was what made GI Joe great in the first place. (Not crappy repaint after crappy repaint.) |

The only way we can defeat SE is to eliminate demand. Or perhaps a large fence. |

I like snake eyes. alot. I like the other characters too, although some i could do without, but in the end snake eyes is probably my favorite joe. I was out of joes for ages, it was the Silver visored JvsC snake eyes that pulled me back in back in '03. That being said, i prefer the core characters in different gear/outfits over straight up repaints. Also, imo, Joe was too congested back in the RAH days, there were just too many people. I like the idea of a smaller core of joes. So, i would rather have snow duke, jungle duke, and urban duke than countdown, blaster, and lightfoot. Just my preferences.

In Australia the first couple of waves of ROC were the first retail joes in years. The only figure to constantly sell was Snake Eyes.
The only one to really buzz was Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes. When they clearanced the Joes on the shelf the only one that wasn't around was Snake Eyes. In my case, variants of Snake Eyes make up the majority of my collection... but I did pick up some nice ROC cobra toys. |

No I'm not sick of SE. His story is GI Joe. Every main character is wrapped up in his story. His Story, look and style keeps changing so what's there to be sick of?
He has an amazing back story filled with tradegy and redemption Yes he's the ultimate Joe but he's humble about it and is all about honor and duty. Ninjas are great I love them. Sunbow's SE is my fav We should all be sick of Duke, what a joke. Talk about over used!!! Why couldn't Serpentor's snake just have killed him. |
