Yep. Doc, Snow Job, Gung-Ho, Wild Bill, Airborne, The Battle Bear, The Falcon Glider, and Destro to an extent was introduced in this issue.
There were a LOT of great stories in the Marvel run. I would say most of my favorites were in the first 70 to 80 issues. The Snake-Eyes origin. The first attack on The Pit The capture of Cobra Commander in Switzerland. Introduction of Zartan When Snake-Eyes & Storm Shadow first team up and attack Cobra Island to find Zartan The creation of Cobra Island The attack on Springfield I'll admit Hasbro knew what they were doing by making Hama include the new toys in certain issues. I always wanted to go out and get the vehicles and figures that were in the comic I just read.

I loved the Borovia arc and the Serpentor/Invasion of Springfield arc where they divide most of the Joes into a strike team, security team and assault team while incorporating most of the vehicles.

I'm reading them all right now too. I'm on ish # 73 I believe. Seeing that they are going to continue the series through the current company peaks my interest in starting to read the new ones.

If I remember correctly, it was: Stalker Scarlett Snake-Eyes Beach Head Torpedo Leatherneck Quick-Kick Recondo Recondo didn't get used much in the comic, but when he was, Hama always portrayed him as a bad@$$. I also liked when the Joes attacked Cobra Island during the Cobra Civil War, and how they were separated into teams with different objectives. When Hama wrote a big battle it was always very organized as far as teams and objectives and always lasted a good two or three issues.

Yeah, we got a couple things we didn't like as much later on, but really overall, it is staggering how CONSISTENTLY AWESOME the 155 run was. From issue 1 to 155, awesome!

That was one of my favorite parts of the story as well. You knew Stalker's Strike Team was the bad@$$es.
If I remember correctly, it was: Stalker Scarlett Snake-Eyes Beach Head Torpedo Leatherneck Quick-Kick Recondo Recondo didn't get used much in the comic, but when he was, Hama always portrayed him as a bad@$$. My favourite part of the Marvel series was definitely the Borovia story-arc (featuring Stalker, Quick-Kick, Snow-Job and Outback), closely followed by the issues leading up to and the actual issues containing the Cobra Civil War. Looking back, it seems like the Cobra Civil War was Hama's attempt to reconcile his feelings about the Vietnam War (he's a Vietnam vet, served as an E.O.D. specialist during the late 1960s). The parallels between the Vietnam War and the Cobra Civil War are a bit plain to me now that I'm older: The US government sends a military force to aid one side of an internecine conflict (a side that has promised concessions to the US government if they win). The US-aided side loses, and the American forces withdraw from the theater of conflict. Hawk's quote at the end of the Cobra Civil War, I think, was Hama trying to stand up for his generation's performance in the Vietnam War: "The soldiers always lose and the politicians and deal makers come out smelling like roses!" |

Those were the only issues where I enjoyed Serpentor. Had huge potential that became a waste.
The scene where he's leading the small unit to hold off the Joes so the citizens could escape, and he gets shot and the Troopers panic, he gets up and goes right on kicking ass. Then the scene where a trooper gets shot and Serpentor rescues him and the others are all like "wow, no one has ever done that for us before".

The Marvel Joe run is still my favorite comic runs of all time, for the most part the art was very well done and the stories were always well written. The Springfield issues are my favorite. The core unit broken into little teams, great stuff.
Also I really enjoyed the terminology that Hama gave us. Overall the run was never the same at DD. I really liked the Frontline story that Hama wrote, Dan Jurgens art was just OK. |

I loved this. When I was re-reading the comics I was trying in vain to keep track of the teams and their names. If any of you wiser GI Joe fans can do this it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, the big battles were great the way Hama organized the Joes. Wasn't enough of that.
