Troynos, for some it did hit the mark. But, a point I've made before is that a lot of people who liked it still agree the movie missed the mark.
The poll numbers reflect what people thought of the movie, true enough. But remember, there are a lot of people who like the movie simply because it was labeled GI Joe, and there are a lot of people who said they liked it ok "just as a movie", but not really as a GI Joe movie. There aren't many saying "I didn't like the movie, but I think it hit the mark". But even among the people who "liked it", there's a large contingent who still feel it missed the mark.

Excellent movie. I liked it alot and can't wait for the 2nd. It had it flaws but every other movie based on a comic/cartoon before also did so it didn't bother me as much. Gave it a 5.

My point was that if someone (Streetsweeper who I originally quoted) says "for some it missed the mark" they should also acknowledge that "for some it hit the mark". I much prefer when people personalize stuff like that, so it would have read (paraphrasing): "Doesn't matter what the poll says, for ME it missed the mark"

Anybody who's ever been on any fansite knows that you're just as likely to find people who pointlessly bash something and claim how it raped their childhood as much as pointlessly like it. In fact, people who are more familier and ingraned with the mythos and history of the franchise might, if anything, be more likely to find fault with something that goes off in a different direction, so your argument is flawed at the very least. The internet itself, being a giant interconnected hate machine, is generally a pretty piss-poor place to do any survey (which is why the place I work at is still in business), but the only other place you're going to get feedback is from a test-screening, which people here will just claim "Of course Paramount will say it tested well!". Even Larry Hama has been accused of being paid off for his approvel. Frankly, this is the best we're gonna get and I still want to get more of the more "apathetic lurker vote" before ruling either way. C'mon apathetic lurkers! If you need to get motivated I have motivational posters! Or not... whatever. |

Makes you wonder why Hama didn't go against Hollywood and say what he truly thought of the movie. They should have given him more of a say on it. |

Ever see that episode of the Simpsons where Comic Book Guy makes a movie based off of a comic he wrote called, "Everyman" that Hollywood totally destroys? They pay off CBG guy very well and he still writes, "Worst movie ever".

it wasnt the worst movie Ive seen but it was pretty bad. Of course, just like most on this site, think IM the biggest Joe fan. growing up with the 80's joe, I seen spectacular characters that I cared about, Start from Filecards, then Comics, Then a cartoon. The characters were so good, and the backstorys so well done, that it didnt take a major motion picture to make GIJOE the best thing to come from the 80's besides Billy Idol.
You take this movie and compare it to what we grew up with, and its very shallow, They changed some core mythos just to change it, and took memorable characters that Ive cared about for years, and made them completly forgettable. Also to take out the biggest part of joe "the real AMERICAN hero" part just to sell tickets around the world, and be more "PC" guts the patriotic part out of it. After all, the red white and blue and real american hero part of 80's joe is one of the MAIN reasons my dad bought me so much of it. If my dad thought that there was a frenchmen on the Joe team, He would have bought me matchbox cars or green army men. I just think that kids will grow up and forget about this Joe. not like us, to where our world revolved around it, and were still in love with it. Its just not that memorable. will the second movie change that? mabye, it also has to do with the different age. Im just not sure that any toy can capture a kids imagination the way it did for us back then, with the internet and video games now. This was an attempt by Hasbro to get kids into Joe like the 80's using the best chance media out there, Movies. For us, we could read a filecard or a comic book, and the imagination came from that. The new figs have no filecard description to speak of, and with a movie that made the characters so forgettable, its all about what you see in the movie, and the chunk of plastic in your hand. There seems to be no attempt to capture the imagination with the toyline and movie tie in. No matter how much I didnt like or like the movie, its all about how times have changed for kids. Star Wars WAS and IS the best modern sci fi series, and was made in a way you cared about the characters, and it was fresh and had sweet stuff in it for the time (remember the FIRST time you seen an AT AT?) Star Wars was good enough to sell toys as a movie series. This new GIJOE is not, and I think kids will just forget about it..

Hama actually liked what he saw. He's also all for reboots, modernization, etc of the brand and the mythos. He's not nearly as attached to the ARAH mythos as a lot of us are, in fact I think he's somewhat embarrased by it at times.
