I've been thinking about signing up for the Joe collector club finally, big lob is too tempting.
I was wondering if anyone here is a member and let me know if it's a worth while purchase. Is the magazine interesting? Good discounts? Etc? I think the cost is worth it but I'm just not sure if I can justify it with my wedding coming up. Any help is appreciated! (Plus it'll keep the fiancee off my back!) |

I think it's definitely worth it if you go to the Con and get the exclusive sets. Otherwise... I don't know. I've never ordered from there, and I do enjoy getting the newsletter (it's pretty short) and free figure, but the main reason I join is to get the Con exclusives. I mainly just accept and eat the costs of membership/Con set, and think of the free figure and newsletter as bonuses. Last year, I wasn't able to make it, so I didn't renew my membership.
Then again, because I'm in Canada it's quite a bit higher for me to join and pay for shipping anything I would buy from there, so that's a consideration as well. And I haven't really taken advantage of the online aspects of the membership (forum, etc).

This. I've also found that you may have difficulties in obtaining any issues that were not delivered to you. During one subscription year I missed 5 issues of the newsletter. When I called to ask for help the CSR at FunPub was very polite, but she couldn't offer much help. All in all...IMO, the Club is great but only worth joining if you plan on taking full advantage of all the perks that come with membership. |

I joined Oct 2008, and love being a member. The newsletter is short, but I look forward to it each month (and it is changing in January, so it might not be as short).
It is fun getting the 'free' figure and the club store does have some good sales from time to time (I got the Iron Grenadier box set for 150, and have gotten past membership figures for 5 to 10 each (that is the Officer Members sale price)). Kevin |

I would say no, it's not worth it.
The customer service I have found to be horrible. And as C.I.A.D. has said, trying to get issues owed to you when they screw up is not easy. And it happened 3 times to me in a year. Not a good track record. The free figures can often be found on sites (forums mostly) or ebay for cost or below. I would not advise joining the club for the figure. That's what I did, for the Cobra Commander only to see it cheaper later on. The club magazine is only okay. It's very stale, a tad boring and aside from the dio stuff, full of content you can find online in some way. Maybe the reported re-boot will change this, but doubtful. Overall the club's really only redeeming quality is that it cuts off a lot of the costs of going to the JoeCon, which is outrageous even with the discounts.

Thanks guys, it seems like I'll have to rethink things.
I won't be able to go to the con this year, I only can afford really to go to Megacon each year. So it seems like the club won't be worth while. Thanks for all the advice. |

I've been a member for the last 3 years and was going to forego my membership this year. I've been able to find cases for a few bucks less than I can get them on BBTS in the past and have always gotten my stuff faster than people who order from other sites.
The range of stuff isn't quite as good and they've significantly reduced their inventory over the last couple of years in order to cut down on waste. They have good sales a few times a year, but if you don't act quickly enough you can miss out. I've been happy, but haven't bought much since ROC started. With Big Lob coming I'll likely keep my membership for this figure. |

Do the newletters have a few pages of fan club comic in the back? (Transformers club run by the same people does this.) I often see G.I. Joe club exclusive comics advertised in Master Collector when I get my Club Transformers magazine. The fan magazine comes sandwiched in Master Collector which is a big wad of toy classified ads and several pages of TF and Joe toy ads.
