I've been collecting the series since the start and I'm really not feeling the new stories. I don't think they get the characters right and feel like its almost a complete waste of my money buying the issues each month.
I like the GI Joe: Origin story and the main series has its moments, but I just can't say I'm impressed. Am I alone in these thoughts or missing something? Last edited by hedrock; 11-30-2009 at 01:14 PM.. Reason: spelling mistake :) |

It took a while to grow on me...
Now it seems to be gaining momentum. I like Mindbender as well as his relationship w/Destro. |

I'm liking the series alot. It was slow going, but I like what they're doing with the characters. I like the slow build. I like how Cobra is this huge and unknown organization with it's hands into everything.
As the Baroness said "Cobra's playing the long game" and "why get millions for selling it when we get billions for not". Also like how time is relatively true in this series. Flint called in and it took hours to get a team assembled and down to Patagonia and then took hours to get Brainstorm and his team down there. That's a bit of realism. The architect part of me is glad that they showed the PIT more realistically in size and scale. It was also so much smaller then what would be needed to house the Joes. And I'm glad there's a support staff in place. Makes more sense.

I like the IDW revamp. The first story arc was a little slow moving, but I agree it is picking up the pace. I like the way classic characters are updated and worked in.
Only thing I don't care for is the TPB format of writing. The old Marvel series seemed to have more story per issue.... (and each issue was considerably cheaper back in the day). |

Can't blame IDW for the TPB format of writing, it's an industry standard nowadays, every company does that style for the most part.

Yeah, I know it is the industry and not just IDW. My only gripe is the cost vs content ratio has gone up since the old days. The various IDW GI Joe publications are the only ones I buy and read; I don't think I could afford to be a comic collector these days.
Another plus of the new series is that it seems the writers have a plan. In the old days, Hama 'winged' it a lot issue to issue. |

I like and I don't. I like reading stories about GI JOE, but I don't like IDW messing with the original story lines.

So far, I can take it or leave it. I'm glad there's a GI Joe comic out, but this one just hasn't caught me yet.
One thing I really do not like is the nature of the Joe's organization. Too much "Do this or die.", "leave us and die", "civilian knows too much, they die.", "Not guilty or die.", "Gotta keep my cover, so I'll put a bullet into the head of another Joe who is also my lover. She dies." Way, way, too much of that. The Joes are supposed to be good guys right? So why is it, so far that they seem more of a threat than Cobra? I also don't like the whole "Cobra doesn't exist so you're either crazy or a traitor for believing that. So now you have to die." attitude of Hawk and whoever else runs the joint. BUT, I did like the introduction of Helix, the Tomax/Xamot one shot and some of the origin stories. |

Another plus of the new series is that it seems the writers have a plan. In the old days, Hama 'winged' it a lot issue to issue. Also, yeah, ever since the industry went the TPB-Story route the quality of the stories seems to have gone down. And things happen quicker, not as much time to develop, etc... Marvel said "We've had 2 years of Bucky-Cap", sure but only like 6-8 stories of Bucky-Cap, not enough time to develop as a character. But how are they messing with the original storylines? These are the original storylines. They are the original IDW storylines. The IDW continuity is it's own thing, not related to Marvel/DDP.
