There's 3 markets for Joes: Collectors, kids and Customizers.
Each is still a limited market. Collectors can troop build, but let's talk about the named characters that don't get troop built. Collectors (for the most part) would get 2 Shipwrecks, 1 MOC and 1 opened (at most). Kids would get 1 to play with. Customizers, how ever many they need to for the parts. That's still a limited market. Once those 3 have all they want, there's no more Shipwrecks being sold and no more will be sold because Joes won't pick up that big a buyership change that fast. So if you have 30 Shipwrecks on the pegs, and 25 of those go to the 3 groups. That's 5 Shipwrecks that will sit there and rot. And it doesn't matter how good a figure it is, if there's no market to buy it, it won't sell. So after the 25 for the finite market are sold, those other 5 will sit there.

I'M BACK!!!
The air support still gives me fits. I just don't know how to incorporate it. The Joes need air transportation: Blackhawks and C-130s. But do they really need their own dedicated fighter wing? That's the part I have a hard time coming to grips with. I think I've given up on making the base, at least for now. Can't come up with an idea that I'm happy about. I'm still in limbo with my Joe organizational charts. When I was first getting back into Joes, I had this idea to customize a Dragonfly. There was a scene in Blackhawk Down where the Delta guys deploy off of the skids of the Little Birds. I thought it would make a cool diorama to customize a Dragonfly by removing the missles so I could deploy Joes off of the skids and have a couple of Tomahawks fast roping in two teams to lay down cover fire. Maybe have them going after some Tier One Cobras in a palace in Trucial Abyssma where they would be meeting with the crooked dictator of the country. It would be a complete ripoff of the scene in Blackhawk Down, but I thought it would look really cool. Then I found out how much it would cost to put my hands on a decent Dragonfly. It's not like they are cost a fortune, but they're enough to make me think twice about risking one to my customizing skills. I've since decided to encorporate real life vehicles instead of trying to shoe horn existing Joe vehiceles into roles they're not designed for. There are so many good 1:18 scale out there that I should invest in some non Joe stuff, but I'm going to try and stick to helicopters and light vehicles only. |

I don't have a Tomahawk or Blackhawk :(
They're interchangeable in my Joeverse, both serve the same purpose. Same with the Ospreys. When I was doing my base, I was using Blackhawks and Ospreys because I had models for those, where I didn't for the Tomahawk. The Joes are missing the Little Bird equivalent. The Locust could work, maybe the Skyhawk. The Dragonfly is too big.

With the Joes connection to Vietnam, it seems like the Huey would be a natural fit for them. Maybe there was some licensing issues that prevented Hasbro from making a Huey inspired vehicle. I know it's outdated, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for 1:18 scale Huey. It's been brought up before on this thread and if memory serves, sombody posted a pic of a camo painted Huey hovering over water. I'll have to go back a few pages and see what I can find. |

Didn't the Huey get replaced by the Blackhawk and Little Bird?

I know for sure that the Navy and the Marines still use the UH-1 as a light utility helicopter (the Marines recently developed an upgraded version, the UH-1Y Venom). The Army has decided on phasing them out gradually (they're basically waiting for them to break down). |

Zulu, I certainly can't make an argument for any particular style of Martial Arts and I agree that Ultimate Fighters are mixed martial artists, but a lot of what is taught in Karate and Judo and Hapkido and other well known arts is not very useful in real, non-choreographed fighting. I guess who I'm referring to when I say that most martial artists get their butts kicked are the ones who value all the the fluff and fancy moves. Flying spin kicks look awesome and can hurt if contact is made but they're difficult to pull off, easy to defend against, and are more for show. And if you can't wrestle or grapple none of those fancy kicks and punches mean anything if some big hulking guy just throws himself on top of you. But of course everything depends on the environment, whether it's on the streets or in an arena.
However, I'm not saying that grappling is everything either. A mix of skills and toughness is required but what seems to work best is a combination of traditional grappling techniques and simple, nothing-fancy striking. Basic boxing, kickboxing and wrestling skills go a long way. Last edited by Tanksmasher; 10-12-2009 at 06:01 PM.. |

I'm still in limbo with my Joe organizational charts. After reading more about SOG using aircraft in direct support of their operations, like SOFs rely on SOAR, I think close air support is essential for Joe recon missions, especially since you just can't fly in artillery pieces in a moment's notice. |
