I was recently asked about doing a commision for one of my custom figures. How much should I charge? How much do you charge? How much have you paid?

Factor in Parts + Supplies + Time + any custom sculpting etc.
But I can't do a Custom for less than $75 and make it worth my while.

I charge $10 an hour for my time.
Parts, shipping is extra, I charge nothing for paints/supplies. So true.

What I would suggest is that you sell the original custom your buyer wants and do another...this time better.
Parts + Time can add up to quite a bit...and honestly, if they are gonna pay 75$ and up for a figure...it better be a work of frekin art, if you know what I mean. You cant agree on a price upfront, it's just not possible, thats why I say sell the original and command what you feel it's worth. |

You are well known. You can charge people that much. I'm still building a portfolio and trying to get known, struggling just to get feedback. It's rough. If I charged $10 an hour right off the bat I highly doubt people would be knocking down my door to get any customs I make. This is something I'd honestly love to do for a living but until I get more feedback I'm screwed as far as how much I can charge. |

IF I charged for my customs I would get run off the Tank. That's why I only do my customs for myself. I ain't very good.

Honestly, my argument may be invalid here because I've been told I sell myself too short at times but...

This is something I'd honestly love to do for a living but until I get more feedback I'm screwed as far as how much I can charge. When I started out I just customized anything in sight & kept going...just keeeeeeeep practicing, that's the only way you'll get there. I now turn down 50% of all potential commissions due to time or I'm uninterested in the project. As far as doing this for a living, never gonna happen with Joes but some of the top Transformers customizers fetch 4 digits for their works of art. |

Then I wouldn't worry about what to charge & just work on that portfolio.
