Now I know BB is not a well liked business, but I would like to know how many people will miss the brick and mortar stores. I have family that swears by Netflix. I got it for a few months and quickly ended my subscription. After getting several dvd's in the mail that were scratched to the point where you could not watch the first 2 minutes of the movie. I did not like having to mail it back, wait for a day, then wait for another day to get another copy. I have heard from my family having to wait over a month for a new release. Gee it only took me 10 minutes to get in my car, drive to the BB store walk in and pick up my movie. And you actually got some exercise in the process.
I will miss the day when video stores are gone, bookstores will probably be next because people will just read books on their ilazyphone, or lazy nook gadget. Since when did it become bad to actually get outside and go somewhere (video store, book store)? |

eh, unless you go there for new movies, it's pretty pointless. Sure, they have old movies but it's typically either bad sci-fi movies or the biggest movies that were ever around. If the movie was ever a cult movie, you can pretty much forget finding it at BB. Or if you like the new Doctor Who, they don't carry that either
Netflix is good for that and now I can watch movies from Netflix through my Wii (mind you the selection isn't always that good) Honestly, I was more broken up by the closing of the Hollywood Video store around here than I will be whenever the BB's finally close in my area |

I'm actually surprised they lasted this long.

I haven't stepped foot in a Blockbuster in years other than to pick up some cheap DVDs from the ones that were closing down. I did also pick up the 25th Joe poster as well.
Online and kiosk is the way to go. I prefer the $1 a day rental kiosks because I don't want to get into a monthly subscription and I don't rent enough to justify Netflix. I like to reserve what I want online and pick it up, so I know the kiosk will have what I want when I go. I see them at my local grocery stores, walmart, concvienence store, and drug stores. With so many in my area it really is convienent. I just got an email the other day saying that Blockbuster Express kiosks is owned by NCR and they are in no way affected by Blockbuster going into bancruptcy. Man, that NCR is into every ATM and every other kiosk under the sun it seems. Their stock must be doing well I imagine. |

I am old school and an intimidated by the kiosks. LOL. I just like going into the Blockbuster that is 5 mins from where I live and renting the movie I want. Sure it cost $5 for 5 days instead of $1 for 1 day, but I only rent like one or two movies a month so it is not that bad for me.
Blockbuster's death was inevitable though... itunes and filesharing sites killed Tower Records... amazon & ipad killed Barnes & Nobles... and netflix and redbox is killing Blockbuster.

The other thing is that once in a while a kiosk will be full and you can't return anything. Then you have to drive to the next one if there isn't a second kiosk available. |
