You know I've been a big supporter of M. Night's work.
I loved Sixth Sense. I loved Unbreakable. I loved Signs...granted I know everyone did not, but I think the problem was marketing. People walked in expecting an alien invasion film, like War of the Worlds, instead its a film about a man losing his faith, and finding it again. That disappointed a lot of people. Personally I liked it. I can't say I loved The Village, I figured out the secret when I first saw the trailer, but I certainly didn't hate it like most people did. My one big issue was the logic gap of sending the blind girl into the world for help. It made ZERO sense, any member of the elders was better suited for this. Otherwise I actually liked The Village, at its core it was trying to prove a point that no matter how much one tries to hide away from bad things happening they will happen, and when you hide yourself away from bad things, you also lose good things as well. The Lady in the Water......pure steaming crap. It was easily one of the worst films I've ever seen. Too long, too boring and for all of it you get....a water nymph that goes home on a big eagle. I've yet to watch the Happening but I hear bad things abot it, so maybe when I see it for $5 at Target I might give it a spin. Airbender I have zero interest in seeing. I'm not a fan of the show, and to me this looks like M. Night sat down and looked at how BAD his career is right now and said, "I need me a slam dunk hit film. If I make this Airbender flick halfway decent there is a fan base that reguardless of how good it is or isn't will rush to see it...hell kids alone will want the DVD." It reeks of desperation. So he can keep it. Now Devil......yeah I'm gonna wait for some reviews before I see thia one. |

not a huge fan of the sixth sense but a very decent debut.
unbreakable and signs were phenomenal. but they do cater to a particular type of viewer; each of them. the village was cool I guess... to an extent...but the ending was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too sigh inducing. lady in the water... the intent was there... the atmosphere was almost there... but it was executed so poorly and so much was rushed. the happening was one of the silliest films ever. it was like Ewe Boll directing Episode III. the first ten minutes I was like... wow okay... and then... and then it was like this...

This movie is so dumb. LOL. Like how big is that elevator... when the lights go out just go ninja crazy wolverine berserker psycho and you are bound to hit the bad guy out of sheer luck. Seriously though; after Lady in The Water M Night Shyamalan should not be allowed to even think about movies IMO. I have no problem with him directing a movie... I just don't want him to have anything to do with writing it.

I refuse to watch anything new from him!
After the crap show that was the Village I washed my hands of him... then stupidly took a chance with the Happening.. or the Shattening... and yeah... I'm done with his shit I would rate the Village as one of the all time worst movies ever. I called the entire plot and ending 5mins into the film.. I asked for my money back

So they find out one of the people in the elevator is the devil and then what?
Twist ending: the devil placed everyone in the elevator at that time to reveal that he has issues that only Dr. Phil can resolve.

I loved the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.
I knew going into Signs that it wasn't about the aliens, and I truly loved that movie too. In The Village M Knight Shamalanglaghalgfhlg was making a political point about false warnings from the government. He was making fun of the color coded terrorist threat level in the movie. I could care less about his political views, and don't agree with them, but I did enjoy the movie. I saw it opening night and hadn't seen much on it before watching the movie. Now, when a filmmaker is more concerned with making a political point that making entertainment, then, you alienate a huge part of the population because people just want to be entertained, for the most part. Lady in the Water was okay, nothing special here. The half body builder guy was interesting to me. I'm a personal trainer and own my fitness company, so this character was interesting to me. Every time I saw him on screen I was trying to think...okay how what exercises could I do just to get one of my pectorals built, and let the other remain normal. It was silly I know, but I love imagination, and new ideas. Never saw The Happening and never will. I heard what it was about before it came out, and said that is just stupid... I know I said I love imagination, but some things have its limits. This was another film he was trying to shove politics down the viewers throats. This new movie is coming out in September, and that says a lot right there. There are two months that studios will put movies out that they have little faith in, and those months are January & September. |
